Comments Thread For: James Kirkland Focused on a Hard Run at The Title

After a two year layoff due to legal problems, junior middleweight James Kirkland (27-0, 24 KOs) is taking his third fight in 35 days on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Kirkland will appear on the Erik Morales-Marcos Maidana pay-per-view undercard. Kirkland's goal is to gain an number one ranking by the end of the year. He wants to be in position to fight for a title by late 2011 or early 2012.

I like how he's fighting every couple of weeks. Whatever it takes to get this kid comfortable in the ring again. Kirkland in the ring as much as possible and out of the streets is nothing but great for him and boxing fans.

All fighters in the game should do this---be as active as physically possible(without the jail time that is).

the problem is , he isn't getting the rounds as he's disposing off the opponents in the first couple of rounds...he needs to step up a bit, from D level opponents to C level so that he can get at least 5-6 rd's fights

The more rounds he gets the more likely he will run into a shot that could hurt him, he will hit the canvus in one of the tuffer tests.

He looked a bit sloppy in his last fight. It's going to take another couple fights for that ring rust to go away, but I bet he'll be back to form by the end of the year.

Me too. Corrales did the same sort of thing when he got out of jail and didn't miss a beat.

IMO, the guy has looked sensational against the stepping stones he's been given but once he fights a better quality fighter I see him getting counter punched to death..

Cant come in swinging for the fence with every punch... His strength and toughness outweigh his skill level. I'd like to see him fight Alfredo Angulo...
