As far as development Canelo is very very similar to Barrera.

Both guys turned pro as kids 15/16 years old both had tremendous records at a really young age hyped as the next great Mexican fighter. Both started out as pure come forward sluggers then Barrera when he needed it showed off plenty of defensive skill just like Canelo will when he needs to. But both fight for the people and if they can will always want to put on a show.

You have some point there but I disagree about the defensive skill from canelo.

Can't say I'm a huge fan but when he's able to make the weight safely and comfortably he's definitely a capable fighter. He would have been a formidable force at 147 but it doesn't even look like he can fight at 147.

His weight issues are serious though which is a bad sign. It cost him in his last fight. If you fail to make weight and part of the penalty for failing to make weight is enforce a ruling that you can not fully rehydrate until the night of the fight than there's no way you can expect your body to support an optimal performance.

The fact Alvarez failed to make weight is bad enough but when your promoter is too dumb to negotiate a safer deal for your physical health for the night of the fight, that is even worse.

They better get their **** together over there before they decide to start shoving more hype down peoples throats. Alvarez's performance along with whats going on behind the scenes, it all looks very amateurish.
