He's nothing like Oscar as far as pedigree. Everyone knew Oscar was the truth from the beginning, he was a gold medal winner in the olympics and was a world class fighter very early on in his career.

We don't know how good Canelo can be yet.

        I agree.
canelo got lots to work on. oscar's movement is much more fluid and canelo seems a bit stiff.

like it or not saul alvarez is the next big star in boxing, even if he doesn't fight big names, the people and the mainstream media are going to follow his fights anyways.

That's probably correct, but I am sure that he will step up in time. I also agree with that earlier poster, you simply cannot compare Canelo with Hoya.

There are certain things he can improve on but certain basic attributes such as speed and maddening punching power that cannot be improved significantly. I am sure he is going to improve as a boxer/fighter but I don't see him to the level of an oscar, marquez and certainly chavez sr. But time will tell.

And I sm sure groupies are gonna line up to play "golf" with him after every fight.

Bottom line is that you cannot try to manufacture a superstar, at least in the international sense. True boxing talent will manifest itself over time.
