A man too weak to protect his own life, risking his brain-function, so that his peers can clap and pat him on the back for being macho, is not a man with "heart," but a man lacking the individuality, to do what is truly in HIS best interest. I would sooner respect a smart fighter, who knew he would come back another day and not be brain damaged for applause, then a low IQ "warrior" who is too weak to make the right decision with regard to his own well being.

And personally, the Mexican face forward style, does nothing for me. I'd rather watch MMA as they often have better technique than these so called mexican "boxers." To see to 106lb rejects, punching each other in the face all night gets boring fast. Every round like the last... no defense and 500 punches to the mouth landed for both fighters. Get the FACK outta here with that amateur shyt..
The first paragraph was a beautiful post.....the second one not so much. If you are a true fan of the sport and have followed it for a while then you would know that there has been an abundance of skilled Mexican boxers.

But I do feel the same way as you do about the face-first punching bag style of boxing.....I don't care for it.

I agree with this post 100%!! You make some very valid points.

Indeed, there have been some VERY skilled Mexican fighters. I was thinking about the other 80% who have come to glorify "forget defense, kill me in the ring!" I just can't sit down and watch it round after round. I get bored and like to see some skills, counters etc. I grew up watching Ali, and then learned to appreciate the style of Leonard after that. Overall, Tyson too was brilliant early on, in that he was not only balls to wall, but elusive in the ring too. He had a granite chin, but did not need to get hit every 2 seconds to prove it. Props to the great Mexican fighters, but I simply cannot suffer the other 80-90% who forego skill for this warped perception of what it means to be a warrior. I just wanted to touch on the psychology and what plays in the minds of a lot of these fighters. What I find is that while outwardly "tough," what happens inside the mind is not always necessarily rooted in courage, but rather a deep rooted fear of rejection. So much, that a man is willing to die in the ring for what can ultimately be deemed, fear. It takes a certain amount of individualism, and courage to know when to bow out and not risk your health at the expense of your family, kids and reality. Perhaps the wise man, with a healthy dose of self-love, is not moved to self destruction for the sake of applause and acceptance. I find that it's less about heart, and more about smarts.

Thanks bro, I am not putting any one down. I was simply trying to analyze it from a psychological point of view. In other words, what goes down in the mind, when a man is willing to sacrifice himself for entertainment. What perhaps is the great motivator behind what we the fans see as pure courage. Can it be, that in fact when a man is compelled to risk personal injury, he is acting out of fear of being rejected by the great crowd. Does this fear of rejection and need for acceptance, imply weakness in the face of what appears to be courage? These are the things I think about sometimes.
