    I understand about Oner getting there first, I'm just disagreeing with you that other people wouldn't have wanted them.

    Any Olympic gold medalist is automatically a hot commodity in boxing, and they are marketable. Plus the whole intrigue and mystery surrounding Cuban fighters only adds to that.

    A Cuban sets foot on American soil they get sent to INS and most likely deported.

    For a Cuban to get to the US they have to go to another country first and request asylum, then they can work on getting a visa then a green card if they have the backing. That is why those guys all went to Mexico first (I believe) and that is where they met Oner.

    It is an interesting process, look it up the only reason I know about it is baseball

        yeah that's actually right. I think that was in the 90's when they automatically became citizens.

          It is and it isn't, our messed up relationship with Cuba leads to this kind of situation. That certainly could have played a role, wait in Mexico to get in the US or go to Germany and wait there while starting up your career.

            My memory is fuzzy, but I think gamboa or maybe it was rigondeaux went to ireland first, then to germany.
