Because he's coming off of a huge loss and is looking to rebuild and keep his fanbase believing in him. His fanbase is Mexican. Beating a Puerto Rican is a good way to get them on his side again.

Also, a loss would all-but-ruin his career. Mosley and Martinez both stop him at this point. With Cotto, he has a chance to really win a fight in impressive fashion and it's probably more money than a Martinez fight. Certainly then a Mosley fight.

Makes sense. I don't really want to see him fight. He loses to all the best fighters and could lose to the A-/B+ crowd as well around his weight.

Money, redemption and you can bet that in his head, cheating or not, Margarito thinks he has Cotto's number. The problem is Margarito has taken a series of rough fights now and has defnitely looked to be slowing down. He has looked vulnerable to the body and has to worry about his eye, if only it was the left eye. Against Cotto he will likely take a lot of damage to that eye. This should be a great fight.

no Martinez has called Margarito out many times, its just right now Margarito isn't that attractive a fight for Martinez.

Wrong and right. After the loss to Williams and the Pavlik win, Sergio called out Margarito, but Margarito declined to fight Martinez. There are countless articles quoting this so linking one would be pointless. At this point, it would make no sense for Martinez to fight Margarito which is why he wants to move on. Margarito no longer holds any weight.
