Except Montiel, the point is what type of opposition did Top Rank engaged to Donaire. After that destroying of Darchinyan they gave no good opposition at all to the point that they almost destroyed the career of Donaire.
I think it is immaterial really whether which reasoning is LEGALLY binding. This is what happens if a woman and lawyers are involved. After the Donaire win over Montiel , Rachel got overexcited and probably was blinded by the prospect of fame and fortune ahead. Now it appears that they are attempting to steal Pacquiao's image. Big mistake.
Big mistake, big mistake. He cannot be another Pacquiao in the Philippines. First, he is a U.S. resident, with base in California. He will have to do his future training and exposure here in U.S. Slowly and surely he will alienate his Filipino fans. Second, if he is with Bob Arum he gets personal attention , just like Arum and Roach that they go to the Philippines every chance they get. BUT with GBP would you expect DelaHoya to make Donaire's promotions in Manila? I doubt.
They should have met and talked things over first...without lawyers and wife.
this is not good for donaire. They should have stayed with top rank for the meantime. A very bad move. He just started to enter the peak of his career.
I agree, why would he just sign right now if it expires soon.
That's just it, his contract wasn't due to expire soon (according to TR)- and Bob has been hollering this for some time now... The contract (as being explained in this article) was to be continued (or extended) by the amount of time that Donaire was on DOCUMENTED medical leave (Arum didn't place him on medical leave, a Doctor did). For however many months Nonito was 'medically unavailable', the contract is extended by that many months EACH TIME HE WAS OUT. For example, if he was out sick from "work" for 4 months, 4 months would be tacked on to the last date of the contract, then he's out again from "work" another 3 months - you add ANOTHER 3 months to the last extended date. He would still owe TR another 7 months from the original expiration date of the contract.
Sounds like they had that covered in the contract.

??? No... GBP and their lawyers has to have seen, read, and analyzed the Donaire's contract with TR. Afterall, they have traveled the same road before with Manny Poohkyaw fiasco. And they should know that TR is not going to bend over like anybody...IMO
Not exactly, and if they did (I'm sure they probably DID)they could not admit it. Bob basically PRE-WARNED everyone through the media and on this very site that for GBP to even hold a discussion with Donaire having anything to do with going to work with them (while he was still under contract with TR) that it would be specifically illegal according to the binding contract and legal matters concerning boxing and it's rules and regulations (whatever those are). And, if indeed GBP did read the contract, they (and any promoter worth a grain of salt) knew the contract was legally extendable (due to Medical Leave). That's why Donaire (GBP) is choosing to fight the contract by saying TOP RANK didn't hold up to their end of the bargain. The only way Donaire could possibly get out of his contract is to try to prove that TR didn't fullfill their obligations.
And (for those who are saying this) - this issue is NOT about the quality of competition. It may have been an issue for Donaire and the reason he wants to walk, but Nonito is not dis*****g the oppositon offered to him as the issue. He's saying he was not given the OPTION to fight the 3 times per year as specified in the contract. But, if what is being said in this article is true - WHAT EVER AMOUNT OF TIME DONAIRE WAS LEGALLY (MEDICALLY) AVAILABLE TO FIGHT, he actually fought a minumum of 3 times during that OFFICIAL (extended by months missed) contracted year ACCORDING TO TOP RANK. You have to take out the months missed on medical leave, and THAT'S where it gets sticky.
