LMAO! Manny will NEVER fight Sergio and he couldn't out sell Floyd no matter who he's fighting even if his life depended on it. Stop smoking that ishh.Comment
-
People don't need to know Sergio all they need to know is Pacquiao vs. The middle weight champ.
It could sell quite well but it doesn't have the broad appeal to break the record, plus neither guy is a native english speaker so asking them to sell a fight to an english speaking audience is asking a lotComment

The only fight that has the chance to surpass Mayweather-DLH in PPV sales, is another fight involving Mayweather: Mayweather vs Pacquiao. And even THAT fight isn't a given to surpass Mayweather-DLH. In May 2007, you might have witnessed the biggest PPV fight sales-wise, for a long time to come. And if Floyd happens to retire any time soon with Mosley being his last fight, then you can forget about that record being broken until two other huge huge starts that can really sell a fight come accross. Sorry but a couple of mild mannered boxers who will smile at eachother and giggle with hugs and kisses during the "fight build-up" can not and will not sell 2 million PPVs. Mayweather did some crazy stuff in the fight build up to the DLH fight, stuff that made fans want to see him lose and pay for his fight, stuff that Martinez nor Pacquiao will ever have the showmanship to do.Comment

Mosley isn't a PPV draw. Yet he did 1.4million with Floyd.
In the end, people want to see fighters fight the best guys. Pacquiao vs. Martinez would do great numbers, not as big as Pac-Marquez 3 or Pac-Floyd though. It'll surpass the Cotto fight PPV wise.
Pac vs. Martinez = Legitimate chance Martinez wins this fight. Which means people will get interested whether they wanna see Pac win or lose they'll order the fight.Comment

I'm surprised at all the negativity in this thread.
People forget that prior to the dela hoya/floyd jr fight, floyd himself wasn't a draw AT ALL.
In fact, i recall people actually walking out of his fights.
but their fight ended up making PPV history.
Both Pac and Martinez are on a roll, with Pac's PPV numbers steadily rising and Martinez performing admirably well.
And IF this fight would ever happen AT 154, Pac would be the clear underdog coming into this fight, which would be something different.
And though Martinez is somewhat a senior in boxing, (36 years of age right?) he's coming off several impressive wins and is on the upswing. no way can ANYONE say that he's shot, over the hill, drained or whatever.
Assuming this would be at showtime, then most likely, provided they market it well, this fight would very well break the floyd/hoya record.Comment

BUT Floyd Mayweather had already starred in 3 PPVs as the main event. Gatti, Baldomir, and Judah, which if you add up what all 3 did combined it was almost 1 million PPV's. So going in to the DLH fight, almost 1 million fans had already paid to see Floyd[with 3 PPVs combined]. So saying he was not a draw at all, is exaggerating don't you think? I don't know the exact numbers but i know Gatti and Judah each sold almost 400k each[probably in the mid/higher 300s], and the Baldo PPV sold in the lower 300k I believe or high 200s. If my numbers are anywhere near what the fights sold, then Mayweather had a combined 1Mill PPVs sold or close, going in to the DLH fight.
Martinez has never been in a main event PPV, he has 0, nada, 36 years old, 0 PPVs sold.Comment

pac and martinez would be one hell of a fight but will the non boxer fans know this? i think not. go ask a random white lady does she know who sergio martinez is and she'll probably be like who? the guy that cuts my grass? (pun intended).Comment

True, very few people really know about Martinez, but with the power of information these days and the way news travels fast, it shouldn't be a problem hyping up this particular fight simply because with this one, there is no way it wouldn't be considered a legit fight.
And Pac would be the clear underdog in this fight. Who wouldn't want to see that?Comment

I think people are not realizing that people not knowing Martinez going in doesn't matter. You don't even have to put his name on the fight poster, just put Manny Pacquiao vs. the Middleweight Champion with Pac and Martinez facing off. People won't care who Martinez is, they'll see Pac fighting some good looking latino dude who is the middleweight champion. Combine that with a 24/7 and it sells huge. Not anywhere near Mayweather-De La Hoya but certainly better than many of you think.Comment
