It's a no win situation for Cotto because he loses either way. Sure he makes more money fighting Margarito, but how do you think it'll make Cotto and his fans feel that Margarito even without wraps can beat Cotto.

If he fights Martinez, there's no shame in losing there but he doesn't make asmuch money and it's still a lost.

Cotto will easily make more money with Margarito than Martinez. First of all they have a history and that was one of the greatest fights of the last 10 years. Imagine the build up for this fight, it would be epic. And it would deserve a 24/7 or fight camp 360.

Second they are the same weight so no excuses about moving up or down in weight.

Third there was alot of controversy about whether or not Margarito loaded his gloves. This will settle the score once and for all.

All the Mexicans and Puerto Ricans would rather see that fight.

I'm a Cotto fan but I would take Sergio to finish Cottos career and I'm not sure Bob Arum is done with Cotto yet as he's making a beach-head with CBS/Showtime. He will wants as many belts in house as possible whilst he transitions his PPV business there from HBO, so I dont see him doing it.

I'm starting to think Martinez is getting overhyped around here. I would favor martinez definitely in that match but to think cotto has no chance vs martinez is dumb. Martinez ain't that tall and he has that bad tendency to keep his hands down. His arms aren't that long so he will have to stay close, now thinking on that, cotto has one of the best jabs in the business and martinez will be eating it all day. If for any reason he gets close, cotto has the opportunity to go to the body and martinez has been fighting nothing but taller fighters than him for a while and cotto fighting also nothing but taller opponents than him. This will go to cotto's advantage. In other words, if martinez can't hurt cotto, he could be in for a long night. Now think if cotto can carry his power to 160 or even get stronger and be able to hurt martinez. Under Stewart, cotto has a really good chance of winning this fight after all with a good gameplan

100% with you on this one.

To count a fighter like Cotto out is just silly. Martinez is on a high right now, but so was pavlik, Taylor, jones etc etc until somebody knocked their asses out.

why not? that would be win win for cotto. IF he moves and fight for a belt(even if its a catchweight) he can go for a fourth division. I think no other puertorrican has done that. If he losses it was too much and can keep his head up, if he wins he's p2p no2 just like that and go for manny at 154

I could sort of understand Pacquiao and Mayweather, but I don't get why the hate for wanting to fight Cotto. He's the mother****ing #3 jr middleweight fighter of the world. Any other lesser middleweight fighter coming down to fight Cotto Pirog would be called be getting zero hate. And it's not like he's asking Cotto to come up. He's going down. And lets not forget he fought at jr middleweight for most of his career and held a belt there not too long ago. He already beat the #1 jr middleweight fighter, got ducked by the number #2, and now he's asking for the next best. And what he wants to move to jr middleweight permanently? Would people be mad at him for that too? All the best names are at 154 and 160 is empty.

Martinez made a bad decision for staying at 160 after beating Palik. He should have dropped the title and come back to 154 in the first place. He wouldn't be getting any hate for fighting Williams at Dzinziruk at 154 where he was a natural at.
