"Martinez did confirm last week he has no plans to move up to the crowded 168-pound division, because with a smaller, 5-foot-10 frame, he would be giving away too much size. " http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...ory?id=6216573
And why he is asking welterweights 5-foot-6 frame to fight him on 154 lbs and outweigh his opponent by 20+ lbs on fight night??? hahaha
one more thing, when Oscar is the cash cow, Floyd climb to 154 coz Oscar said so.... Pac do the same, he climb from 135 to 147 just to fight the cash cow... now this non PPV attraction want a piece of the two cash cows and p4p kings to fight him at his comfortable weights of 154 lbs gaining huge size advantage? hahaha!
"No mistake," Arum said, "Martinez is good, very good in fact. Do not undestimate this guy. He may be an exceptional guy but when I mentioned Lucian Bute (super middleweight champ) then Lou says Bute is too big for Martinez. If Bute is too big for Martinez, then what does that make Martinez for Manny?"

I say let this fight happen at 154 or 160, even if martinez will outweight pac by 20-30 lbs, pac will still tko him by cuts or win a very ud, i will bet all my points on it.Comment

The guy was a 154 lb. champ as recently as 10 months ago (til someone made him relinquish it so 2 non top ten 154 lb. guys could fight for it at a weight less than 154 lbs.)
If Bute is too big for Martinez, then what does that make Martinez for Manny?"

That's right, it makes him a victim of the success Manny has had in the ring (with anyone else on Earth besides JMM, of course)
And even though manny could easily make 140, or hell even 135 cuz he usually weighs in day of at 144, after a Full English Breakfast (Just like Sergio could still make 154, since he usually day of weighs in at 158) He won't, because Marquez would still have a fight to give him at those weights, and that Scares Manny Pacquiao, cuz he remembers what happened the Last 2 TIMES.
So I'm guessing what's happening here is 3 people so far (sapaw, mushahadeen and check hooks
) are saying that Manny Pacquiao is incapable of being a hypocrite, and will defend him BLINDLY to prove he isn't one.
Love of a fighter should never interfere with reason.
Get off Manny's nuts.

If this fight were to ever happen it will either be at 150-153 or 155 for the Middleweight Championship, from team Pac's point of view there no reason to have it at 154.Comment

Fight the guy you unfairly had stripped of the JMW crown you won at a Catchweight by beating a guy who wasn't ranked, and who came into Cowboy Stadium with 6 losses, and after the most embarrassing loss of his career.
They could make a entire episode of "24/7" or "Fight Camp" based solely on that.Comment

I do.

And, Pac got Martinez stripped, eh ok. Margo was ranked no 1 by the WBC, unfair or not, that was his ranking.
And if you mean ring ranking, Cotto is no 1 now, would you be happy with that rematch at 154?Last edited by Slick_Rick; 03-16-2011, 11:18 AM.Comment

Well, then why not go the extra lb and go for the MW Championship?

Exactly, unfair or not. Margs earned that spot by beating Roberto Garcia (Not to be confused with his ex-featherweight champ trainer) who 2 months prior to fighting Margs, was fighting at the Super Middle Limit.
If your asking if I would watch/pay for Pac/Cotto II @ a full 154, the answer is yes, for the same reason I'm throwing in part on the Pac/Mosley fight. Because both fighters are still, at the end of the day, exciting fighters.
I also don't think it would be quite the blowout 9 lbs. north of the original (It's not like it's in the realm of absurdity for Cotto to beat Pac, even though I still don't think it would happen.)Comment

For part 1, See previous answer. Not insulting your intelligence, that's just my argument and I'm sticking to it. For Pac's point of view, ask Pac, cuz he seems to be pretty uninterested in a 155 lb. catchweight.

Which is why he wont fight Martinez at 154, as he doesn't need to. And is all more reason to fight him at 155 and make claim-age to that MW strap. And as for legitimacy, i dont think many people will complain about that, even the hardcore Pac haters wont be against it to much seeing as Martinez is a smallish MW.
But yeah, i doubt the fight will ever happen, regardlessComment

The fact that we are even discussing this fight proves how good Pacquiao is. When Pac fought Margarito the size difference was enormous. It was almost laughable. This is even more laughable, and unfair. I don't stand by Pacquiao's winning of the 154 lb title at a catchweight - that was illegitimate, wholly - but in actual fact the maximum weight division he can really fight at fairly is 147 lbs. Anything higher and he's sacraficing an inordinate amount of weight. Which is not to say he might not win - and I would give him a chance of beating Martinez, no doubt about it - but at what point do you draw the line? If he beats Martinez are we gonna start talking about him fighting Andre Ward? When I watched Pac-Margarito, I saw a jr-welterweight beating up a big jr-middleweight. It was phenomenal. I would like to see the fight but I won't demand it, because it's preposterous. It's preposterous to ask Pac to fight a guy as big as Martinez, when even on the most rigorous bulk-diets (eating like seven meals per day plus protein shakes) and employing a full-time strength and conditioning guru in Ariza he has not been able to weigh over 145. I mean, he's never EVEN WEIGHED 147 LBS and some people on here are demanding he fights the middleweight champion of the world? Get the fck out of here with that nonsense, so-called boxing fansComment
