This fight doesn't make sense for Pacquiao in terms of risk/reward.

Perhaps if Martinez was the same draw as a Mayweather then it could have happened but he isn't so it would be irresponsible for Roach to let it go ahead anywhere above of 147lbs - which isn't going to happen.

But hypothetically lets say that did happen who would win? Easy, Pacquiao by KO/TKO. Pacquiao fought Margarito when he weighed 168 and only hurt Pacquiao once in a 12 round fight. Pacquiao broke both sides of Margaritos face and he had to punch upwards. He also hurt Margarito numerous times to the body. Martinez at 158 would not be able to hurt Pacquiao and Margarito beat the **** outta Martinez and we all know what Pacquiao did to Margarito.
Limiting fighters on fight night is practiced, though it is reserved for fighters not making weight at the weigh-ins to offset the weight disadvantage against their respective opponents.

As far as the comparison with Margarito, he is a far cry from the skills of Martinez currently. Martinez can box, fight going backwards and better hand and foot speed than Marg. I would say Pac has the advantage, but I wouldn't predict it to be a total shutout.

It doesn't hurt to wonder the 'what ifs' in boxing

There is simply no way it can happen before a Floyd fight. No possible way.

I think it would be a close fight but Sergio is simply too big and strong for Pac.

2 years ago it was hard to believe he can even fight at 147, but now people say he's big enough to fight the MW champ?

              2. pac had a hard enuf time w/ margarito
              3. martinez wud destory pac just like klitchko wud destroy martinez.

pointless fite. proves nothing. like omg a 5'11 MW beats up on a 5'6 blown up JWW. come on.

Exactly my point. Nobody believed he can fight at 147 before but he did. I suppose fans like me are confident enough that he can beat the guy when they meet half way on a compromise, but not overconfident to propose a fight that puts all the disadvantage upon him.

Pac didn't have a hard time with Margarito. You watched a different fight. Pac wanted to brawl from time to time and got hit on the body in round 6 where he was able to recover and continue dominating.

Martinez will destroy Pac at MW, that's for sure. But at 154 with the proper compromise, he beats Martinez.

I've seen Martinez say 152 and to me that's the magic number.
