I didn't think that Mayorga would win, but that is not what you call a clinic. You don't get hit by repeated right hands and then say you gave a guy a clinic. Cotto is a very good fighter, but he is vulnerable and thats why I like to what him. Mayorga couldn't sustain the type of pressure that Margarito and Pac can. Cotto can and will maintain a belt, but as far as beating the best at 147 he'll have trouble with that. At 154 he's got a good chance to be the top guy. Here is the class according Ring Magazine:

    Kermit Cintron
    Alfredo Angulo
    Ryan Rhodes
    Sechew Powell
    Yuri Foreman
    Vanes Martirosyan
    Sergei Dzinziruk
    Saul Alvarez
    Cornelius Bundrage

I didn't see it, I watched the free fight. However, I thought that Miguel would have gotten him out of there by rounds 6 or 7.

Cotto boxed very well. He won 10 out of 12

Have to give Mayorga credit though, he managed to talk his way into one last pay check, so you have to give him credit for that.

It was a waste of a fight for Cotto and I don't think he really got much from it, except rounds.
            Payday?

His contract was for $ 450,000.00, $ 400,000.00 of which he settled with Don King for money's "owed" to the Devil Himself.

Not only did he get a beat down, it was a paltry sum to take home...

So 50 grand is nothing now? LOL Damn you are ballin I guess...

If he paid off a debt, then he paid of a debt that he now doesn't have.

Mayorga hasn't been a factor for 5 years now, for him to even get this fight says a lot and he got a nice payday making almost 1/2 million dollars. Whether most of that went to Don King I don't know but it doesn't matter.

People actually think this was impressive? I expected Cotto to take him out in 6 or 7. De La Hoya, coming off of a year long layoff looked more impressive against a version of Mayorga who still had something left in the tank than Cotto. Even Mosley, who sucks at 154, had poor training and also came off of a long layoff was able to knock out a 170lb version of Mayorga, even though he looked worse.

I'm not one to compare performances because styles do make fights, but this shouldn't have been anywhere near as competitive as it was. Cotto should have been able to break him down with body shots and take him out in 6.
