That's about it. No one looked great in that fight but Cotto got the job done in the end and kept mayorga at the end of his punches.Cotto dominated from a scoring ascpect. landing nice combos.
Mayorga had some spots with his overhand right and awkward uppercut.
He also landed a nice bodyshot in the 7th.
Cotto really took his time in the championship rounds and just threw his jab.
He landed a huge left hook in the 12th round and Mayorga went down with a phantom broke thumb. He got back up and took few punches and Mayorga complained about his hand and quit.Comment

Not the best fight but not the worst either. It was a good fight but I had higher expectations. Cotto was just two patient and cautious at times and wasn't active enough to dominate and let Mayorga get some mean shots off and made you question whether Cotto should really get the round or not.
Mayorga actually looked good until the last 2 rounds when he finally faded but it seems when he's motivated he could give some decent top fighters a run for their money. I'd liked to see him be Paul Williams comeback fight since he's coming off a bad KO and a good war with Kirkland be nice too before he fights a top 10 again.Comment

One thing that no one is really talking about is how good Mayorga looked. He wasnt shot. He was fast and in excellent condition. Steward even said he was shocked by Mayorga's readiness. Cotto was patient and did well.Comment
