I like all these guys making excuses for whatever fighter to duck Sergio because he's bigger/taller/whatever. Pacquiao, Cotto, Mayweather, and Mosley have all fought at Junior Middleweight, yet they somehow get a pass to brush off Sergio Martinez. Michael Marley made a great point on Boxing Truth last year when he asked the question

"Did Marvin Halger say 'No, I won't fight Tommy Hearns, he's too tall?" No, he took the fight and knocked Hearns out."

Manny has never weighed more than 149 in any fight. Mayweather fought at 154 once.

Cotto, Margarito, and chavez have no excuse.

But ultimately, this is a business. As much as we want to see these guys as Greek gladiators. This is a business and Martinez is bad business for these fighters.

As far as your comment regarding Hagler.

Hearns was the fighter moving up to challenge Hagler and not the other way around.

Can anybody tell me why not a sergio vs paquiao? If i remember right didn't pacman fought for the 154 title against margo? That's bs they knew margo was shot, they should fight a guy on his prime like maravilla. Sergio ktfo paquiao.

Sergio is a great fighter and Manny is too. But they each have their own motivations and goals. Martinez wants to fight the best and get paid while doing it. Manny wants to keep rolling by knocking guys out in his own division.

Their motivation are very different, and, more importantly, they are in two different weight classes. There is no need to criticize these fighters.

Manny doesn't have to move up in weight to fight Sergio, and Sergio doesn't need to move up in weight to fight super middle weights.

Manny will probably stay at 147 and fight someone who is at 147, or some other fighter moving up from 140. Like Tim Bradley.

Sergio will keep beating middleweight contenders until one of these 154 or 160 pounders step up to the plate. I don't think think a fight with Cotto, Margarito, or Chavez is out of the question. These are big fighters so they shouldn't have trouble with the weight. The question is, are the handlers of these fighters allow them to fight Martinez? I don't think so. They will make every fight possible before fighting Martinez.

It unfortunate for Martinez, but hey, that's life.
Sometimes it is a curse to be very good at something.

Martinez wants to become the number 1 P4P as he always said but calling Cotto won't help him. Even his last fight. Dzinziruk maybe good but best at 154lbs. Martinez didn't fight Dzinziruk at 154lbs. Correct me if I'm wrong. P4P is a goal, dream(for some) and a challenge for a boxer. I give much credit for him if he challenge Dzinziruk belt at 154lbs won which Dzinziruk defend for a long time and become a title holder at 160 and 154 at the same time.

Winning agaisnt Cotto at 154 is likely a money fight not to become a number 1 P4P fighter

Name calling is good when calling big names on your division and great when above of your division but make sure to beat them all.

I don't blame some posters insisting Martinez to fight Pirog/Ward or Bute anyway it was Martinez who says he wants to become a number 1 P4P boxer. I must be North

Best post of the thread in my opinion. Noticing too many bias, cry baby fan boys disguised as boxing fans. This sport is called "BOXING" not "WHINING". Fact of the matter is that Floyd, Pac, Margarito and Cotto all fought at 154 and won titles (except for Margarito) so there should be no excuses as to why they can't fight Sergio Martinez. Sounds like posters on here are more worried about Martinez fighting their guys then them and the trainers. Alot of you sound like B!TCHES.

Martinez is all wrong for Pac or Cotto... He completely destroys Pacman or Cotto... Floyd is his only threat. I think he would box Canelo silly too... Martinez looked impressive last night. He isn't winning anymore... He is destroying. For some reason I can envision a fight with Shane being fun to watch with Martinez...
