damn right...Margarito is just too big and too strong for Cotto...that's the bottom line...Cotto needs to move on, just accept that he got beat by a bigger and stronger man....no shame in that. Margarito is ruthless...he won't be as nice as mayorga was.

Cotto looked pretty good out there. I mean he was giving it to Mayorga. It doesn't seem that he is that big of a puncher at this weight though. I also must say that is the best Mayorga I have seen in a long time. That left hook at the end was murderous though.

Cotto cannot beat the still suspended cheater if he fights like this. All Cotto has to do is be more active on his feet in the early rounds and go to the body more. All he has to do is watch how Mosley and Pac beat cheato and incorporate some of the strategy.

He definitely has the skills to beat cheato. Whether he beats cheato depends on his game plan.

Cotto did what he had to do out there and looked good doing it.

He is by no means washed up.

Cotto isn't washed up, but he's on the downswing. If Oscar could have got Mayorga outta' there in 2006, Cotto should have been able to do the same. (If not better.) I was not impressed with Cotto tonight. He took way too much punishment for one thing, and didn't stop Mayorga until the 12th. He shoulda' had him out of there in 8 rounds.

The haters wanna act like Senior citizen, Shane Mosley, didn't KTFO Margarito.

Wanna talk about "age?" Sugar Shane btches... Left your hero looking like a drunk mexican lady with a bad haircut smiling at the referee like "You want donkey show?"
LMFAO!!!! Funniest description of Margarito's face I've ever read.

BTW, in regards to Cotto, styles make fights. As I'm watching the fight, I'm thinking this. If you are a polished fighter as Oscar de la Hoya, OF COURSE you're gonna' get him out of there within 6 rounds. It took Tito 8 rounds because Mayorga's chin wasn't dented yet. Let's not forget that Mayorga was ALSO moving up in weight and didn't train properly (as he says in the DLH/Mayorga countdown). It makes his threshold for punishment all the more impressive.

Was he in shape for DLH or not? I don't know. But Oscar is a fantastic boxer who was truly motivated to hurt Mayorga after all the crap he said. Oscar de la Hoya is a boxer puncher who can move. More boxer than puncher really. An Olympic gold medalist.

Mayorga vs. Mosley. Mosley was looking sloppy with Mayorga and on his way to winning a close unanimous decision, perhaps majority. Mayorga was in great shape, during his ringwalk Merchant mentioned that he spoke with Mayorga and that Mayorga mentioned that he drastically reduced smoking prior to this fight in order to improve his conditioning. Whether you can improve your conditioning after so much smoking throughout life, I don't know, but it shows he was serious with his training.

Cotto vs. Mayorga...considering Mayorga hadn't been in a big fight in nearly 2 and a half years (and at age 38), it's impressive he lasted so long against Cotto. I think that, despite his loss, Mayorga probably gained more respect than Cotto won fans tonight.

One more thing, there was a fantastic article written in Ring magazine around the time when the Mayorga/Mosley fight took place. It talked about Mayorga and people debating whether it was fair to label Mayorga (whose had mild success with big fighters) as a fighter that was wild-swinging and uncoordinated rather than awkward.

So, what can you say? Is he just a terrible fighter with a lucky punch or just someone with an awkward style that makes anyone look bad? You decide.

I for one hope it's the latter. Mayorga might not have a lot of accuracy, but it may be that's just his style, and one that has taken him (and maintained him) with the big names in the sport for a long time.

If he he does truly retire, thank you for the memories Ricardo! You've always been an entertaining fighter to watch!
