Doubful KO. Especially since Foreman received death threats, was held captive (= couldn't leave the country) and had to import his water from the US. Moreover I take Foreman very seriously when he to this very day claims he was poisoned and needed several years to get his health back.

Moreover Foreman simply gassed thus EVEN IF you consider this a valid KO, it's still not impressive.

On the paper though it is Ali's biggest KOwin indeed.

Except that Chuck is a 35-14 bum. Comparable with someone like Marcus Rhode (Vitali Klitschko KO2).

KO in round 15. Wouldn't count nowadays as KO. Moreover the KO is contested as Ali refused to go to the neutral corner and thus was able to knock him down instantly and thus won the fight based in the 3-KD-rule.

Moreover Oscar is 5'10.5'' and 204 lbs. Yawn.

I know that Ali was leading (thus would have won anyway) but you gave it as an example of an "impressive KO" thus this had to be pointed out.

I have no doubt that Clay's opponents were "heralded". In fact even the bums on Ali's record are more famous than good opponents nowadays because the whole 1970s is nothing but a Hero Hype Machine(tm), Fantasy Factory(tm) and Mythology Mill(tm).

Floating is cowardice and shuffling is a useless gimmick (and only cool if you are a fan of epilepsy), but in the world of good-old-time-nostalgists useless gimmicks are more important than winning.
Luckily Ali happened to win against the best heavyweights in the best heavyweight era that's ever been. Kind of kills your theory doesn't it chump?

Chuck Wepner was the same size as Wladimir Klitschko, are you saying Wlad is average?

-Wepner down only twice, once at age 38, the other time by the Greatest

-GlassWlad down 11 times, all by journeymen

Ali happened to win LUCKY DECISIONS in an overrated era that could only exist because the Soviet Bloc had no professional heavyweight division (= it was illegal).

Thus the B-level AMERICANS like Clay could outshine C-level AMERICANS like half-blind Frazier. The one-eyed dwarf wouldn't even be allowed to box nowadays that's how bad the era was.

Don't fool yourself: Clay lived in the American Boxing reserve and EVERYONE who actually WATCHES (= not only listens to brainwashed American experts) his fights SEES with his own eyes that Clay sucks at boxing and is 70% hype (political, racial and religious hype). Clay is nothing but a slow overweight cruiser ("BUTTERfly"). His biggest assets were
                1) Dirty tricks in the ring ("Dirty Clay")
                2) Luck
                3) Clairvoyance
                ..
                27) Talent
                ..
                68) Chin
                ..
                185) Power

Sounds like you are describing Chris Byrds slave contract after beating Vitali(not allowed tuneups, ordered to rust for 6 months). I give full credit to ALi for the Foreman win, just like I give Wlad credit for Byrd.

No. Chuck faced some of the hardest punchers of all time in Sonny Liston and George Foreman. Never been down in his life before 1975. Featherfisted Ali GUARANTEED he would floor Wepner. If it was a 12 round fight, ALi wouldve unleashed in the 12 rather than the 15th.

He has over a dozen opponents with full Wikipedia pages. He is the greatest. I tried to make an argument for Lennox being better a year ago, but couldnt do it in good conscience. Just got to live with it.

No, he is "The Greatest" (note the spelling). It's just a funky stage name like "The Mount Everest".

Lennox > Clay. Not necessarily on paper because Lennox wasn't allowed to call out cruisers.
