I wonder if Floyd will ever be the same fighter.

He's not in his prime anymore. I think he realizes that and has since been much more cautious and doesn't go for the kill like he used to more than just getting the job done.

Floyd at 135 though was amazing.

He's not coming back, he's on permanent vacation.

If he's staying in shape, he should be fine.

He squandered his talent for I believe to give anyhting less than your all is to sacrifice the gift. If you believe Floyd gave his ALL throughout his career then you have a skewed view of reality. Floyd had what it took to be the greatest of all time... he will forever go down as a top ten lightweight THAT IS ALL.
Yeah a few tune ups is out of the question. Floyd tunes up with P4Pers. Its well noted that at this point in his career every fight has to be an event. I cant say I feel like he squandered his career. A 40 fight career is longer than some greats on the lists. I dont see why you would feel like he cheated boxing when he has fought top guys throughout. He's adjusted style for longevity due to his hands and rise in weight more than anything. I believe every accomplishment he's had and the way he makes it look so easy combined with his mouth and superlative skills makes critics and fans alike set the bar for him way above everybodyelse.

Take any other fighter, replace the name Floyd Mayweather Jr with Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Yuri Foreman or Juan Marquez and give them the exact same resume and they would be praised to no end. They could retire with the well wishes of even their biggest critics. Floyd has one thing left in boxing and the initials are MP. By all counts that should satisfy the public but it wont because as long as he has that zero he's a target for unwarranted scrutiny. As long as boxing has been around we've watch the greatest go out in defeat and gotten used to it. Its something heroic that we seem to find in it. Even myself included. We clamour for that one last big one but in reality it just looks sad and depresses us in hindsight.

There will always be an up and comer we label as the next one. No doubt Floyd is my favorite to watch all time (Morales a close second) but I dont want to see Manny, Mosley or even the likes of Mayorga run to the wheels fall off. The triumph and tragedy which is boxing wont change its make up only its name plates.

In his prime Floyd was supposedly quite handy, but who did he fight? Hernandez was good, but is unknown today by most people. So his earlier career is almost irrelevant.
He needs to do something now. People only really care about the hatton fight onwards, because that is an indicator of what he is capable of. But we havent got a lot to go on for now really.

Why do you get to disregard Mosley and Marquez? You dont find it strange that its only with Mayweather that its ok to erase certain parts of history? Or that guys (not just Pac) fight the same guys and get pats on the back?

I think he will be the same as before. He will comeback and very carefully choose opponents and many will say he's great for beating them while ignoring the real challenges he passed on.
