im not a canelo supporter so by boxingscene standards that would make me a canelo hater

my only beef with canelo is not really canelo fault. my beef is really with the wbc giving him a vacant title shot and against a unworthy challenger. just because of his popularity.

i mean where was canelo and hatton rank at 154 from the wbc before the fight was announced. I think more than anything that what people have been critical of canelo lately was how both he and hatton are not worthy to be fighting for the vacant wbc 154 belt.

and now that canelo has won the wbc belt people that are saying he will be fighting stiffs (berto like reign) are not hating they are just stating the facts

and if your response is that he is young and needs to develop before he takes on the like of p.williams, angulo, cintron, then he should have not fought for a world title.

    canelo is a titlist now.

developing fights need to be done before you fight for the title, if he doesnt fight top fighters from now on he is no different then berto and deserves the same criticism that he has been getting

canelo can be something, but he needs some d.

right now, he's looking at an exciting short lived career a la a poor mans gatti.

he can change it up though.........

in general you post would be accurate if this was 10 years ago. Now a days no one gives a **** about belts. Boxers, fans, and not even the casuals give a **** about belts nor do the casuals even know what belt is what or where it's been. belts have been trashed and destroyed by the bodies that own them. So the fact that someone has a belt doesn't make them any better than anyone else sadly. No one will pay attention to canelo's belt just like no one pays attention to berto's belt and like no one pays attention to pacquiaos catchweight belts.

                Belts are a joke!

the belt do mean something. open your eyes

they are used as a marketing tool and they also help title holder like berto and now alvarez to avoid tough challengers because they can make there voluntary defense of the title against the guy that is ranked 1 thru 15.

when they have that option they dont pick the higher ranked guys (unless it a big payday) they will usually fight the lowest ranking guy that is marketable to a network that willing to pay for the fight

and when you become a titlist you also get removed from the ranking of other sanctioning bodies (wbo, ibf, wba) which keeps you from becoming a mandatory to another belt holder and being a titlist also keep you from being forced to fight other belt holders

wake up. i never said holding belt made you a champion but holding a belt does make a difference in pay and the other points i mentioned
