People are just high on the recent Donaire and Pacquiao wins which is very understandable.
But you have to look at the whole picture you know?Comment

Not to disrespect the Filipino people but that is pretty much all the greats you guys have....Pancho Villa is the only one that is great and never lost to a Mexican but there is Ceferino and Penalosa in that list also so what other great Filipino am I missing?

But there are many Pacquiaos and Donaires out there just not being given the chance and no program to perpetuate it. There's also many champions from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s here and there but many won't even know or heard of because of their brief stints.
Aside from Pancho Villa, there's Gabriel "Flash" Elorde whom even Roberto Duran admired...and in the 80s there's Rolando Naverrette and Andy Ganigan (emigrated to Hawaii)...
But again, most Filipinos doesn't even know the art of Kali/Escrima/Arnis even existed and it was due to the fragmentation of the country. Imagine more than 7,500 islands with many dialects...
But truth to behold, google Guro Dan Inosanto whom was taught by Sigung Bruce Lee as one of the three certified personally by Bruce in the arts of Jeet Kune Do...and other than that, he is a master and learned of about 36 styles of FMA, Muay Thai, Krabi Krabong, Wing Chun, Silat....he also revived and called his own MaPhilIndo Silat from the Malaysian/Philippine/Indonesian arts of Penjak Silat from the Madjapahit Empire of the antiquity.
Mind you, it is only now that the Filipino warrior spirit is being recognized but it's been there for a long while.....Comment

The ones to blame is the poverty of much of the people. To say that Filipinos lacked the champions are not very true at all. I've posted here about the FMA and boxing, but opportunity is not on the Filipinos' side because most would rather work than play sports.

From just memory more or less
The 1920's had villa

The 1940s hadi ceferino Garcia, eleuterio Zapanta
The 1950s had Salvador Marino
The 1960s had bernabe villacampo Pedro adigue, flash elorde, Roberto Cruz
The 1970s had Ebrito salavarria, ben villaflor rene barrientos,
The 1980s had Rolando Navarette, Frank cadeño, Roberto bernardez, dodie boy peñalosa, rolando bohol, tacy macalos
The 1990s had Eric Chavez, rolando Pascual, luisito Espinoza, jesus salud, manny melchor, Morris east, Ronnie magramo, William magahin, Eric jamili, Gerry peñalosa
2000 had Malcolm tuñacao, Donnie nietes, manny PAC, etc etc. We all know wassup.............
Ok that is a champion every decade and most decades had multiple world champions since the 1920s. Back tHen there wasnt too much flag waving so people weren't even aware that they were pinoy in many cases. You can be ****** and hate be quick to speak and say that most weren't great. Hey they were world champions. For those who don't realize facts too well, to use a great boxing nation like puerto Rico who have had many champs.. How many were truly great hof fighters? Haters would judge every fighter and love to remember the hype jobs to forget the truth. The p.I. Has been obscure and fighters unmarketable due to a fan base that was across the pacific, but nevertheless, have produced a significant amount of hall of fame fighters by comparison. but they are back and are strong. Haters still gona hate thoughLast edited by Alibata; 03-10-2011, 08:05 PM.Comment

According to one of the puerto rican posters here there are around 4-5 pr in the hall of fame (I did not bother to look it up but regardless the Phil would not be too far off). Which shows the ignorance of people when it comes to Pinoy fighters. Villa, Elorde, Garcia, honorable mention in Espinosa a sure future hofamer in pacquiao and potential in donaire. How again does the Philippines produce nobodies.
