No harm in Alvarez having confidence before he finally moves up in competition.
Win or lose, it still will do little to prepare him for the elite in the division. And even though both these guys were considered for Mayweather opponents, this match should not be for a title fight in spite of what the WBC says. Hatton is unranked at this weight and Alvarez is untested at the world class level. Have to wonder why #2 Alfred Angulo wasn't invited. Or any of the other light middleweight contenders.

i kind of don't like alvarez talking like that, i think he should do this after he's proven against top opposition. gotta give hatton the benefit of the doubt in this fight, everyone in his corner knows he is the massive underdog, and are hoping for an upset, probably training hard. while this 20 year old kid has to back up all his hype. if he wins by decision, people will talk **** for not looking good against him. if he KOs him, people still won't care cause he wasn't a big name to begin with. alvarez won't satisfy the haters either way, haha. hopefully he puts on a great performance, and than moves onto fighting big names and proves himself..

I find this quite funny Alvarez is basically saying "The WBC are a joke, they let no-hopers fight for a title without any justification" His statement basically shows the hypocrisy of the whole situation. Both GBP and the WBC should hang their heads in shame, WBC for allowing it to be a title fight (nothing to do with catchweight, simply that neither boxer is a highly ranked Jr Middle and more accomplished Jr Middles were overlooked) and GBP for pressuring the WBC to make this a title fight against someone who is a welter and not even Britains best Welter at that let alone a world class Jr Middle.

Canelo fans are just upset he's practically being handed a belt, because now nonfans are calling him a ***** and that he ducks real competition.

I don't like the he's getting a free belt, but I think he's a very talented fighter. He belongs at 147, though.

The WBC is kinda ****ing up his career path. The only thing he can do at 154 is call out Chavez Jr, but Bob Arum will keep protecting his ass. Even if he wins the title, he should move back down to 147. Welter is kind of in a rebuild; Outside of Pac and Floyd, Canelo has the skills to be the top dog.

****, we had FOTY(Fight of the year) last week and this week we have FOTY(Farce of the Year) too! LOL! I mean, if Canelo is good why not give him a couple more years to develop and actually earn a shot. Best of luck to my bro' but he shouldn't be fighting for a strap yet. I can't say that I believe that he'd ever deserve a shot though because I've not seen anything about him that's impressive.

Seriously dude Saul didn't ask for the title shot nor is he the one responsiable for it getting sanctioned for a title either. Again what do you want him to say "no thanks"?
I never said that it was Canelo's fault. What I mean is, it is definitely Saul's fault for publicly stating..... "he is a no-hoper"..... that was kinda silly.

But no, he should take the fight, and subsequent title, the sanctioning bodies are clearly to blame, and are burning what little credibility they have left.

No way, I never said that. I DO NOT want him to "step up"..... because he is clearly not ready. They have done a fantastic job with this kid, anything more than baby-steps right now..... would be naive/incompetent.

This is the right fight for Canelo, I just disagree with a title being at stake.

You do realise I am a Saul fan? It's just that I'm old-school bro, only champions and top contenders should participate in title fights...... PERIOD !!

                    That's a five-star post right there.

**** on the money bro, 4 great points.

My main issue, is point number two.....
Canelo is simply not ready to defend against top opponents at 154, so now we will all have to listen to the "experts" who insist that he is ready to step up, simply because he holds a WBC strap.

He is being pushed too far, too early, because even though he is ready for Hatton-level opponents, he is not ready for title fights, and won't be imho for another 18-24 months.

Boxing is a learning curve, and experience is the key to everything in life. They have done a fantastic job with the kid so far, but he clearly needs more time. Good luck finding excuses to defer a mandatory with Angulo.

I could be wrong, but imho he will dump it, and focus on welterweight.

Which will be kind of understandable, but completely unjustifiable.
