The Sun newspaper claims Haye-Wlad is "back on track"

Haye has just given an interview in The Sun in which he claims the fight is on:

Haye: Wlad bout is back on track

DAVID HAYE has confirmed his world heavyweight unification clash with Wladimir Klitschko is back ON.

The WBA champion is confident the bout can take place on July 21 after the Klitschko camp contacted his manager Adam Booth to ask for negotiations to complete contracts.

Haye's showdown against his mandatory challenger Ruslan Chagaev in May has been postponed while Klitschko — the IBF and WBO champion — is scheduled to face Dereck Chisora at the end of April.

The Hayemaker said: "We are back on. We are trying to make it happen.

"We went a long while with nothing from their side, then all of a sudden we got a phone call from Klitschko's camp.

"They made contact with us, which I believe now shows they do want this fight to go ahead."

Booth is working on thrashing out the finer points of the contract but virtually everything was settled during the last round of talks before Klitschko pulled the plug.

Haye added: "How it all ended up last time was that we got to an agreement and then all of a sudden they turned round and said, 'We are fighting Chisora first'.

"Everything was agreed and we were waiting for it to go to contracts that would be legally binding. Just as we were about to put pen to paper with the terms we heard nothing from them.""

Okay Haye spouts some bullshit at the end of the interview, and The Sun's reporter also spouts some bullshit about it being Wlad who pulled the plug, when he must know damn well that it was Haye who pulled the plug; but nevertheless, Haye wouldn't have gone public like this about the fight being on if the negotiations weren't going well, and he also wouldn't have done those twitter feeds if he wasn't in serious negotiations. Plus Boente wouldn't have gone public about being optimistic if he didn't think negotiations were going okay. Plus multiple anonymous sources in both camps have also said they're close to doing a deal.

Booth is an idiot, and is still capable of screwing things up even now, but it's obvious from all the above that the fight is more likely to happen than not.

Bottom line, Sky have forced Haye's hand and Haye can't really afford not to sign this time.

In these circumstances, I can't think of a sillier moral. The point is that Haye has gone public about it. Where he chose to go public is irrelevant.

Do you honestly think they made up the interview with Haye? Haye would sue them if they did that. What they wrote themselves was heavily spun, and their headline is very misleading, because Haye doesn't actually say that the fight is on, only that he is confident that it will take place, and that the negotiations are back on; but the things they directly quote Haye as saying, he will have said.

The title of the article is VERY misleading, and the Sun is well known for publishing made up stories.

It says back on track, then it says ON and then the quote says:

"We went a long while with nothing from their side, then all of a sudden we got a phone call from Klitschko's camp.

"They made contact with us, which I believe now shows they do want this fight to go ahead."

Far far from being on, especially after the typical press release from Booth earlier today.

Here's something that proves the fight isn't ON like they claimed earlier in the article.

Booth is working on thrashing out the finer points of the contract but virtually everything was settled during the last round of talks before Klitschko pulled the plug.
Please also refer to this news we received earlier:
Klitschko-Haye: Booth Says 'It's Still a Bit Premature'

Having a claimed signed contract before doesn't make this current fight signed, but we'll continue to watch this unfold. My guess would be this article is trash unless we here officially through a press release.

The title and first sentence were a little misleading, and the whole article is full of misleading spin, but if Haye wasn't very confident that a deal would be reached soon, he wouldn't have given this interview. He isn't saying the fight is on, as the Sun claims, he's actually saying that the negotiations are back on and that he thinks a deal is close.

Booth is a lousy negotiator and may yet screw things up, but I'm pretty sure from the Sun interview, Haye's tweets, the fact that Sky have pulled the plug on him for May, Boente's public optimism that a deal will be done, and the many anonymous sources in both camps who have said that a deal is close, that a deal really is close this time.
