If anything Margarito was psychologically upsetting Cotto's mind frame, since the second round, as well as getting in some good punches on Cotto, which only displayed his own set of skills.. Cotto was tagging him with bombs, but Margarito at the time displayed a chin of steel, and the heart of a lion. He was cutting of the ring, and pressuring Cotto like never before.

Cotto had the wrong game plan though. He kept retreating to the ropes after getting off, which is a big NO against Margarito who does most of his work when you're on the ropes. Cotto was outworking Margarito, but in no way was he as dominating as many presume during the first half of the fight, as Margarito was answering most of his punches, despite getting tagged with continuous bombs. Cotto is highly susceptible to uppercuts, which Margarito willingly gave him. Those nasty as,s uppercuts, and body shots broke Cotto down, as well as the relentless pressure of Marg.

CONCLUSION: Cotto got his as.s beat, and broken down, by a relentless tough fighter. Yes Margarito's win has been tainted, since he got caught cheating like a ho.e against Mosley, but still Marg beat Cotto NOT plaster. Cotto got his as.s beat so bad that he mentally quit in the 9th round. You can see it in his expression, as if he knew he was going to get knocked out, or purely receive a brutal beating. Him making it to the 11th round only shows the warrior in him, as well as why he is one of the best p4p fighters in the sport. Technically the fight was stopped by the corner, so Cotto didn't really quit. He just took a knee (it's customary for Puerto Rican fighters to take knees...for u ignorant foos who don't study culture like me) after the brutal beating he was taking.
I'm sure you know a lot about cultures.

What does taking knees have to do with culture?

Anyway, after nearly 3 years, I personally believe that Cotto would've had the fight of his life that night regardless of plaster or not. Margarito is just a very good pressure fighter, and Cotto's shown that going backwards doesn't suit him. He HAS boxing skills, but he can't be on his bike for 12 rounds. A lot of the movement was unnecessary and he went to the ropes too much.

At this stage, I got Cotto winning the rematch against an older, battle-worn Margarito. If Margarito manages to go up against the same Cotto of 2008 and STILL beat him (again), then he shuts everybody up, and gets respect even from the haters. I'm on neutral ground. I was a fan of Margarito after he beat Cotto, but the plaster incident made him look really bad.

Rematch will answer some questions, but at this point, neither fighter will be the same 3 years after that brutal battle.

Time flies...can you all believe that was nearly 3 years ago?! Jeez, I remember like it was yesterday...

Excuse me SR. but I have a bachelor's degree in Latino cultural studies. I think it's highly audacious that you come into my thread questioning my knowledge.
And I agree on everything else you said bro. That sh.it is spot on. I guess I made this thread because foo's always say Cotto was beating Marg until the plaster set in, which isn't true. Also, people called Cotto a quitter, which isn't true either, as the corner stopped the fight, thus Cotto never technically quit. He did take a knee, but that was just a Puerto Rican thing, which doesn't negate the fact that he is still a bad mothafu.kka *****
