the US has nine top pound for pound fighters in the top 25 pound for pound on boxrec. Isn't the USA supposed to be the most well off country in the world?. Aren't our ******'s supposed to be like candyland in comparison to other countries?. Kelly Pavlik didnt seems to come from a good American background and hes top 25. Is this myth bull****?

pavlik didnt come from a wealthy family..he's from the slums ..MOST top fighters come from hardships and chose boxing as a way out.anyone with a real education usually wouldnt choose to get punched in the face for a living

didn't you ever watch any of those lengthy pieces of pavlik and youngstown ohio on HBO when pavlik was fighting? it's a very economically depressed, hard working class city.

It's EXTREMELY rare to see a fighter come from good conditions. Extremely rare. Why fight for a living when you can go to college? Become a doctor or a lawyer or whatever?

Most boxers take up boxing at a young age without ever thinking about making a living out of it. The poor are around/see a lot more violence than the better off, so there will be a lot more youngsters from a poorer background drawn to boxing.

Straight up poverty isn't the ideal conditions for making fighters, usually places with poverty and a relatively close and visible middle or upper class does, much like the USA and Mexico, this also explains why there isn't a huge amount of fighters coming from poverty ridden countries in Africa, the countries that have produced the best from there are the most built up ones like Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa, but fighters for the most part come from poverty or hardship. Well thats just my theory.
