Man some of you here are sh|ting on the guy for taking the high road. He comes and attempts to turn over a new leaf, while making sure that Martinez and Hopkins still get full credit for beating him. I see that as him not making excuses. If he blamed the alcohol for his losses, it takes away from Hopkins and Martinez. He is basically saying he needs to re-dedicate and re-invent himself to see success again, and that removing alcohol from the equation will not mean automatic success.Comment

Wow, this is a tough crowd. And I have to ask what makes you think Pavlik is in denial? He has been in two rehabs and he decided to go, it was not like he was court forced, so I would believe he knows he has a problem. And he may not even be an alcoholic and may just have a drinking problem, and there is a difference and he is the only one who can admit if he is in fact an alcoholic. And as As as it affecting his fighting, if he hasn't been drinking heavy for a long time it surely has not affected his liver as of yet. And unlike some other drugs alcohol burns out of your system pretty fast. There are also all kinds of what they call functioning addicts and alcoholics from all walks of life that get up and go to work and the problem does not affect that part of their lives. And unless Pavlik was drinking during training camp or showing up on fight night with a few belts in him or the alcohol has already began to damage his body he was right not to use it as an excuse. And as some have already stated he should be applauded for his candor when most fighters use so many excuses they can't tell fact from fiction.
He was supposed to be showcased in the Pac-Margarito undercard but had to cancel because of his drinking problem. He lost a career opportunity right there. How can drinking not be affecting his boxing career?Comment

i could see how this sounds bad and like he's still in denial, but i think his point was that it's not like he was drinking right before his fights and it's not an excuse for a loss. i think it just came out kind of wrong, i don't make too much of it. even if i'm wrong, it doesn't sound as bad as the kind of things he was saying before. hope he's on his way back to success.Comment

1) no one that drinks could ever be an elite athlete.
2) no elite athlete ever drank, and if one fell through the cracks and did, their life came tumbling down because of it
3) Kelly pavlik's personal business is more public than I though. Everyone knows everything about him around here.
For the record, I would also outdrink Kelly. Then I'd punch loew I'm the mouth for ruining pavlik's career.Comment

We know three things for sure now from this thread.
