Comments Thread For: Saul Alvarez's Handlers Feel He's Ready For Big Fights

Guadalajara, Jal. - The handlers of junior middleweight contender, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, believe their boxer is ready for the big names. If Alvarez, 20-years-old, defeats Matthew Hatton on March 5 to claim the vacant WBC 154-pound title, he would become the youngest boxer from Jalisco to secure a WBC world championship.

I hope they mean big fights against other C level fighters like Hatton or guys who are shot like Cotto or Spinks. We saw what happen to Vargas

Even the Cotto of today eats this kid up pretty easily

Granted he's only 20, but i just don't get the hype with Canelo

          shot fighter?

am i reading this correct? are we talking about miguel cotto being a shot fighter? i think not. he has climbed in weight and power and beaten the light middleweight champion yuri foreman(convincingly) in his first fight at the weight.
i wouldnt say shot at all however, i would say that he no longer makes the 147ib limit without giving an advantage to the opponent.
          shot fighter......yeah right.

lol Yuri broke his leg very early in the fight and it still took Cotto 9 rounds to get him out. Cotto is shot and will never beat another contender again.

And 99% of those 35 were bums.

Baldomir was shot to bits at the time Canelo beat him, kudos to Saul for being the only fighter to KO him though.

He was rocked by Jose Cotto, who spent most of his career at 135, and isn't exactly a monstrous puncher.

When he REALLY steps the comp up, anyone with a decent chin, good movement and decent handspeed will give him fits IMO, and Matthew Hatton aint that, he's ****.

It might sound like i'm hating on the bloke, but i'm not. I just don't get the hype about him being this future P4P superstar.

He can be a good World Champion and have a good career, but he'll fall short against the elite IMO.

Good luck to the kid, seriously. I think he'll beat Matt Hatton pretty handily, then we'll see what type of competition he fights when he's champ, which i don't think will be for too long.
