He beat the 10 count but did not respond when the ref asked him to come forward. Not once, not twice but 3 times (IIRC). The Ref should have done his job and called the fight there.

No, but when the referee was telling him to come forward, Montiel turned his hands up and nodded his head, like saying "Yeah, I'm ready."

I kinda thought the fight could have went on just off of Montiel getting to his feet at first, but after hearing Montiel suffered a fractured jaw I believe it was a proper stoppage. A couple more shots and Montiel would have been drinking his meals through a straw.

the ref did the right thing....

if, by some miracle of the Universe, Montiel somehow regained consciousness, defended himself to the bell...regained his composure and won the match....

1. the ref would go unnoticed, even though he would've deserved credit.
2. The fight would've been historically epic.

Montiel was champ and deserved a chance to regain his composure....the ref jumped in IMMEDIATELY after seeing Montiel simply couldn't fight anymore. But damn, to get up on your feet from that **** right there.....takes some f**kin' massive balls.
