Given the timing of that counter, and how it was delivered, I don't think he could have escaped a KO/TKO. Props to the rooster for getting up, though.

Had the fight gone longer, I'm sure he would have gotten into rhythm and given a more competitive fight.

Big props to Montiel who is an absolute warrior and made no excuses for the knockout. I believe he can still be a force at 118 or 122 and maybe even featherweight as long as he can steer clear of Nonito Donaire, Donaire was simply walking through his punches and left him semi-concious with the first big shot he hit him with. Montiel is a superb boxer, Donaire is just a freak.

THere's no shame in losing with a valiant effort. It's a game...and hopefully he recovers well and still box.

Losing is not a measure of man. He has proven himself beyond in getting up after that cracking left hook. Even if he didn't get up, there's still no shame in losing.

Have you ever tried to fight while your wieght drained ? I bet it will effect your performance. Try not eating or drinking liquids to drop 10 pounds and than go have sex and see if your performance is the same.

Montiel outweighed Donaire by 6 pounds (126 compared to 134). Boxing has weight divisions not height n he was only 2 inches taller anyway. Mayweather's toughest fights came against guys like Chavez at 130 or Castillo at 135 but he's dominated bigger guys since, Manny's toughest fights n losses came at 130 or below but he's shut everyone else out since moving up....but Donaire fights a unified champ who actually outweighs him by 6lbs and you guys bring up all these size excuses?

It was a mistake for HBO to have shown Donaire with Conte, that will get people talking. It wont surprise me if Donaire pulls a Mosley and says he was juicing for fights a few years down the road

Nonito wasn't hiding anything, did you see on the HBO coverage when he even said get a needle and test me right now, or anytime, he's game to prove to everyone that he's clean. It just hurts you that your boxers are being killed right now by these 2 Pinoys. Be careful with that thinking that Donaire is fighting smaller guys, coz according to these people, esp Dave Rado (bless him), weight is size. To them a 200lb 6'2'' man is the same size as to a 5'8" man of the same weight. It's obvious that the taller guys has the bigger dimension and proportion which translate to a lot of power.

People, I'm not denying Donaire's talent, he only need to fights guys his size. Kaput.

Pacman is 5'6".....JuanMa lopez is about the same size.....will you ******ly match them???

When a fighter fights smaller guys he looks great im not discredting donaire in no way guy got better skills then pac he can actually use angles and box but can brawl without ggetting hit but we can only see his true greatness when he fights guys his size in tje 122 126 division

If nonito is too big for bantamweight and draining himself to fight smaller guys as PRBOXINGCOTTO and others believe then why he has still tremendous performance against these guys?

OnThe punch was excellent and Nonito said it was the hardest shot he's ever landed on someone. That says a lot because he knocked Darchinyan into next week. topic, the fight was slightly stopped prematurely given that Montiel did get to his feet after being severely flattened. The two follow up punches weren't all that bad. Maybe he would recover. There's no shame in the loss. Everyone knew it wasn't going the distance and everyone knows it was all about who got caught first. I gaurantee Donaire goes to sleep on Montiel's best left hook as well. I had Fernando winning rd 2 before the tko, incidently.

Are you insane? The ref made a mistake by letting Montiel continue. He stood up but he no longer responds to the ref's command. He can no longer defend himself. He might die if he gets caught with that left hook again.

Glad montiel is fine.
