Comments Thread For: Kevin Mitchell To Retire From Boxing Over Murray Fallout?

A source close to former British super-feather champion Kevin Mitchell has indicated that the London-based boxer could be on the brink of retirement after failing to agree terms for a fight against John Murray. Mitchell has not fought since losing in three rounds to Michael Katsidis for the WBO interim lightweight title at Upton Park, London last May. A source close to Mitchell has told the BBC that the 31-1 (23) fighter may have to hang up his gloves if he is not offered a higher purse.

What a bum. One loss to someone he knew he'd lose to and he's ready to retire.

as much as I'm not a Frank Warren fan, Mitchell owes Warren for the Katsidis fight. that wasn't cheap and Frank believed in Kevin and Kevin thought other things were more important and didnt prepare for his biggest night.....he ****ed up big time and needs to pay the piper to redeem himself.
i dont think he will quit boxing, he's just trying his luck with Frank, but Frank wont have it, he's too smart for Mitchell.

I think he could still come back and have a successful career, he has the ability. The question is does he have the love for the sport?

A lot of people have said he wasn't training properly before the fight with Katsidis. If he couldn't motivate/discipline himself when he was fighting for a world title in front of his home fans then he won't for anything IMO!

I do like him as a fighter as I think he's a warrior who can adapt his gameplan to counter different situations (although he didn't against Katsidis), I hope he still wants to fight and can come back even if it means fighting some European/Fringe World Level contenders until he gets another chance. After the Katsidis Loss and his subsequent inactivity he will rightly have to wait his turn!

sounds like the katsidis fight may have shattered his self belief. i'm shocked that he only 60 grand for that! headlining a massive open air show live on sky, thought he would have defo got over 100k.

if he retires frank warren will sue him

he invested a lot of money in the event of mitchell-katsidis which was supposed to be mitchell's coming out party. instead mitchell went in unfocused and lost which really pissed warren off

Good. Wank Warren deserves every bad thing he gets.

This is very disappointing from Mitchell.

He should know better than to take Fish Eyes on at his own game and to be fair, he should be grateful for whatever he can get after that last performance and layoff.

                    disappointing.....lots of mouth, no trousers.
                    murray - heart of a lion/champion.....mitchell - heart of a lettuce!!
not surprising warren made reduced offer after mitchell couldnt be bothered to get up for the biggest opportunity of his life. if he wants it badly enough he'd had fought murray for nothing.
murray has long been overlooked - i hope mitchells lack of self confidence/belief doesnt impact murray, they should get him a decent opponent quickly. i reckon he would give katsidis a proper tear up!
