He stepped in after two more glancing punches. People are fixating on this way too much.
This is what the ref saw after Montiel got up and he tells him to walk forward

Beat the count LOLLLL. I guess Montiel probably tapped his glove to the ref by himself also LMAO.Comment

The point is that the ref grabbed Montiel gloves and tapped for him when he was not responsive. You cannot grab a fighter gloves and tapped for him if he's not doing it himself LOL.Comment

What part of the ref grabbing Montiel gloves and tapping it for him that you don't understand. You cannot grab a fighter gloves and tap it for him if he's not responsive. I don't care how drunk Montiel looked, if he was able to tapped his glove and motion it himself than I could understand the ref decision. The case here is that the ref forced Montiel to tap his gloves by doing it for him LOL.Comment

The refs are supposed to grab if the hands were extended to them voluntarily by the fighter. If the fighter does not extend his hands and does not respond to his urging to come forward, they are sure signs that he is done and the ref have to stop the fight...
Anyhow, it is still the ref's call... the call in this fight however, was quite dangerous for Montiel. I hope this doesn't happened again for the sake of other fighters.Comment

Ibaebuchi Byrd is a nasty one, it always killed me how badly Merchant dogged him after that dude could have had a closed head injury.
Cuevas getting up from that crushing Hearns punch was good also
It is amazing sometimes what a human body can do if properly trained and motivated.Comment

Usually when a guy falls like that really displaying the signs of getting knocked out a ref waves it right then that he even got a chance to walk forward is getting the benefit of the doubt.Comment

This is why I would agree in having DOCTORS as referees instead of calling a referee to step in and examine a fighter. Same referee mistakes with Pacquiao over Margarito...
What fans often discount is the brain health of the fighters. The body is doing its own thing doesn't mean the fighter still wants to fight, it's just instinctive...those twitches/spams speak for itself, there's no brain connection there anymore but the firings of electrical impulses over motor nerves...
Thus sure, the mind says MOVE IT but the body is not cooperating or coordinating very well.
This could very well end up in a very severe concussion leading towards brain damage. Or Instant death. Or delayed death.Comment
