With all the money tied up in this fight, it would be outright ignorant for him to be taking shots with no head gear.

One glancing shot and the whole card is ruined.

If anything, they're trading body shots, or working on foot work. The guy is probably coming forward, cutting off the ring, and Wlad's working on moving away and jabbing.

....When I first saw that pic and glanced quickly I thought he was wearing a hat and using mits. I figured there was no way that was a real sparring session without headgear. Now that I look closer at the pic and see that it isn't a hat or mits I do wonder what the deal is. People always say that Wlad is afraid to get hit. Maybe he is training without headgear to get used to getting hit like he would in a normal boxing match. Maybe Manny is giving him confidence in his chin. Maybe they are looking for an injury to postpone his fight with Peter. Who the hell knows, but it is curious to say the least.

The reporters from Vlad's site (in russian only) promised to announce couple of secrets from the sparring preparations. They said though "the curious could already see them in the pics" they posted.

I wonder if the secrets have to do with:

1. Wlad sparring (?) without head-gear

2. The partners Wlad is sparring with

Whats so surprizing about this. I have seen pros at my gym spar with out head gear before and its not a big deal. they still hit each other in the head. Its just so they can get used to fighting without a headgear

interesting pic. maybe he's been listening to vitali a bit more, knowing that vk likes to spar without headgear.

i remember reading about a future la laker sparring with vk once. don't remember his name, but his was big(obviously) and vitali's trainers' made him and a few other people throw punches at vitali and had limited vitali to not punch back but only play defense. needless to say all of his sparring partners were impressed. that is obviously great training.
