    ^^ this.

i completely understand the 'giving the champion a chance' thing but montiel was clearly out of it.

he could have been seriously hurt if donaire ended up landing those 2 punches flush.

100% perfect job, We need more great ref like this one, He saw that montiel beat the count even after the he stumble for the second time and he gave him a chance, Once he saw montiel taking another one or two shots he jumped in, Perfect referee.

It should have been stopped right there. Even worse is that montiel had ABSOLUTELY no clue where he was and what was going on. His body language was not there and was not responding to the ref. Looks like it was not enough and the ref instead physically took montiel's gloves and wiped them, and left montiel standing still for two free shots from nonito. I think this was a case when the ringside docs also ****ed up big time. They can say he was the champ and deserved a chance to go out on his shield, but look at what happened. He was rushed to the hospital after suffering what looked like a seizure, has what looks like a fractured face bone, and nothing has been said of his condition.

I just hope montiel is ok.
The ref was good. You ALWAYS give the champ a chance.

but wasn't the ref supposed to get a coherent response from the hurt fighter b4 he lets him continue?

montiel didn't appear to give him one.

don't get me wrong, i like refs who don't pull the trigger too quickly but i was worried for montiel's safety last night.

Thanks Frogz homie. It was good job, because the ref didn't let it go very far after Montiel failed to protect himself properly. Both fighters have the abitily to change a fight with one punch, and it's always best to err on the side of the Champ. Thats why I say the ref did a good job. Most refs woulda waved it off after Fernando fell the second time before beating the ten count.

I thought the ref saw him convulse. So I was surprised myself to see him pick up the count.
