I think this was similar to what happened to Hatton vs Pac but somehow, Montiel got up. The blow was so strong on Montiel that you could see a red welt at the side of his head.

I agree, if it was stopped when he got up, it being a championship fight, there would have been a lot of complaints.

Id say more Hatton/Mayweather. It was obvious to see Montiel was still out but the ref gave him a champions due. He stayed close enough to prevent damage. I was more disappointed with his corner.

the ref asked montiel 3-4 times to come forward and montiel was completely unresponsive. then, the ref walked to montiel, lifted his gloves, wiped them clean and let him get pounded a couple more times.

totally messed up.

The ref didn't see montiel twitching. Montiel got up before 10(****ing amazing how he got up). Come on if the ref stopped that while montiel was up and standing. People here would cry premature.

yeah i noticed that too. while montiel was twitching, the ref had his full attention on pushing donaire into the neutral corner, so mora never saw the involuntary spasms. he wouldn't have let it continue if he had seen it. at least i hope not. that **** was disturbing.

I think he wanted to give Montiel a chance for being a champion and a fight of that magnitude. I thought he was just trying to observe if Montiel could still react when Donaire tried to finish him off, but after the first punch landed he decided it was all over for Montiel.

The Ref asked Montiel to come forward 2 times and Montiel just stood there. He had every right to stop it there and I'm shocked that he let a fighter in that condition take any more shots.

he beat the count. the ref gave him a chance to show he had something left. he didnt throw, grab or raise his hands fast enough and the ref stopped it after two shots. those shots didnt exactly land flush either.

it was an amazing bit of refereeing.
