Casual Talk via LAS VEGAS, Nevada - I sincerely must say Referee Russell Mora deserves a legal spanking by the Nevada Athletic Commission. He should be under a disciplinary action for not stopping the fight after seeing
Fernando Montiel having a seizure from the crushing-counter left of the new WBC/WBO Bantam Weight Champion Nonito "Filipino Flash" Donaire, Jr. Worse, a lawsuit should follow from Montiel's camp.
Mora's judgment at that moment of letting Montiel continue the fight was one of unbecoming a professional referee being licensed by the State of Nevada and elsewhere. He surely lacks discernment. Even though Montiel insisted on continuing the fight, that's normally given: A real fighter will usually seek more time to fight especially at his most desperate moments. Referee's will to stop the fight must supersede.
In fact, the abnormal excessive movements of Montiel's bilateral legs were so obvious. Any fighters like Montiel must be protected by well-rounded referees who are masters of neurological assessments. And I don't think just by that instance when such bodily activity, so involuntary as witnessed, that occurred upon Montiel, a right-minded referee would not stop the fight, thereupon.
He is, therefore, an incompetent and too dangerous a referee.
Every referee for the brutal sport should have a sufficient continuing education, most especially in matters of dealing expediencies between life and death.
Should the Nevada Athletic Commission leave this issue unaddressed?
