In terms of common opponents fought, Montiel is by far superior.

common opponents doesn't mean much to me. Duran went a full 15 rounds with Hagler, but he was KTFO in 2 rounds against Hearns.

Hearns >>>>> Hagler in common opponents.

But of course that didn't matter as Hagler knocked hearns the F out.

to me it's about styles and how one fairs well against those styles. Watch Montiel vs Valdez and see how badly Montiel was struggling (a fight he most certainly should have got a LOSS for) with a very tall, quick and pretty strong guy. Now imagine what donaire will do.
