I don't care about you calling him overrated, but your attitude reaks of racism, your saying he has to be respectful because hes black makes absolutely no sense, I don't see how he was disrespectful either please explain that? What I do see is that he was the one being disrespected by almost everyone he fought. He just did what he wanted to, he shouldn't have to act in a certain way to make ****** ignorant racists not criticise him, he acted the way he wanted despite his colour thats a good example for people in general.

Im saying this: he didnt do anything for blacks at the time, at a time when black society could have really used his help. Did he necessarily have to? not really. but why should I respect him as a person? If you have power and influence over people, then you should automatically at least attempt to be a good role model and do some good, its not even a racism issue.

flat out: he had the power and positioning to really advance black society. but what did he do? taunted opponents, and then refused blacks title shots, just as he had to deal with once a part of time. he also beat a woman until she committed suicide, during his title reign. real nice. great representation of blacks you showed there.

Pres. ***** has not signed a pardon for Jack Johnson as of yet. But his surviving relatives are still actively trying to get him pardoned. I think the effort is being spearheaded by his great, great, grand niece.

Johnson was green as well. You're talking about a era devoid of building up fighter's. There was no grooming, or building a fighter up. You fought, you won or lost, you fought again. I can understand that you dont care for Jack Johnson, thats fine to each his own. But dont drop the weight of American on his shoulders, and get pissed because you dont like how he carried the burden. As far as I'm concerned. He uplifted the Black race farther than you could possibly imagine, by showing them. You can do and be what the hell ever you want to be, be with whoever you want, however you want, and enjoy the fruits of your hard labor all at the same time. Regardless of racisim.

no, its fact. he set blacks back in society. When Joe Louis beat Schmeling, America looked at him as a fellow American, and not as just a black. that was the first time something like that had happened, and eased racial tension in society greatly.

He set blacks back in the eyes of ignorant racists, how did he actually set blacks back? He did what he wanted to without restrain, and with bravery, he wasn't the yes Mas'er house negro that white society wanted him to be, he showed people that you don't have to act in a certain way because of your colour, just because the racists reacted in a certain way it does not mean he set them back, you have no proof that he set blacks back other than simply stating that it is fact.
