  • Comments Thread For: Hopkins' Strength Coach Pushing Mike Jones in Camp

Philadelphia, PA--Danny Davis, who has been Bernard Hopkins’ strength & conditioning coach for eight years, has been added in that capacity to Mike Jones’ team as Jones, the undefeated welterweight contender from Philadelphia, prepares for his rematch vs. Jesus Soto-Karass on Feb. 19 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Mike needs more than just conditioning!

I have witness Mike on many occassions and I think this kid has much talent but the focus is all wrong. He needs work on his balance more than anything; his legs and positioning are jacked up everytime he throws those big punches. He needs work on punching placement and the use of his height and if his coaches are not seeing this they need to bring in a guy like Emanuel who can teach him how to fight tall. Maybe a dance class may help, but for sure he need better rhythm.

As far as beating jesus soto karass though? Jones did the worst possible thing in unloading a one hundred punch combination and not finishing the job. Soto still couldn't beat him, when he was dead winded.. If he couldn't beat Jones then, it's not happening now.

I agree. I think Soto-Karass is going to get punished this time around.

I have a feeling that's going to happen as well but if Jones doesn't land those big shots, it's also a different fight.

          Should be good.

imo jones will fight smarter this time and not punch himself out looking for the early ko. the strength coach is obviously an added bonus as damn look at bhop he looks and fights 20 years his junior. jones for the wide ud or late rounds tko

The problem with the last fight is all the guys Mike has fought in the past when he lands a shot and gets them in trouble he puts them away without a problem.

Now that he has been a suspect of not respecting the step up in class hopefully he will fight smarter.

                    Jones needs a TRAINER

Mike Jones, has talent but he does not seem to be improving? His people should bring in a world class trainer, I heard the guy in the corner that trains him now talking to him during the Soto-Karass fight and he's clueless...
