I dont't think it's about being with a rival promoter in general. I think it's about being with Golden Boy. It's a bit like with Don King in the 80's and 90's: If you don't play by their flute, you don't get fights. And they can't use you to get the fights they want, you don't get fights either. Good thing that he and Mosley at least can get out of their contracts.

In fairness they don't have to sign with Top Rank to fight Manny, but it's a lot easier to attain the fight going that route, but GBP has been on rocky times lately, BHop, Shane and now JMM have either left or are leaving, there is no smoke without fire and obviously GBP is on rough times.

Golden Boy has control at LWW division but Top Rank has all the big fights (outside Floyd, Martinez) at 147 - 154. Unfortunately for Golden Boy, the big money fights are at WW and LMW.
