Is not just about the money though...I mean Bradley only fought once last year and Cloud has fought just once a year for the last 3 years and might just once again this year. And, I doubt they were making millions in those fights.
The problem is that we don't have enough real true promoters left. Top Rank and Main Events are the last of a dying breed.
All these promoters now don't into their pocket to make fights happen. They wait for the networks to give them TV dates. That is why you don't see fighters fight often. How can they fight often when promoters just waits for a date. The networks can't give dates to every fighter every week.
We need more real promoters. To stop waiting for TV dates, start doing their job, go into their pockets and have their fighters more active.Last edited by jrosales13; 02-06-2011, 09:06 PM.Comment

one of the best posts ive read on this site ever. no need for me to add anything to it.They fought more then cause the HAD to..now they get paid so much once they reach a certain level, they cherry pick and only fight so often. They avoid fighters, dont avenge loses, back out of fights over the smallest things and then in the same breath call themselves great...Greatness isnt defines by your skill set,,its defines by what you overcome, the risk you take and your character.money ruins alot of things and changes people,it makes them think they're bigger than they really are.I wish boxing was more like the ufc where the best HAD to fight the best NO QUESTIONS ASKED..old school fighters define what boxing should be about now..no bull**** just fightComment

top rank defines the problem with boxing..shooting down great fights, mismatching in house opponents..its terrible..arum is only concerned with money.he doesnt give a **** about the sportIs not just about the money though...I mean Bradley only fought once last year and Cloud has fought just once in the last 3 years and might just once again this year. That is a big issue and one I think I overlook a lot. Even though TV is important, it shouldn't be the main thing. If you as a promoter put a good card together, promote the card, and sell tickets networks (not just HBO or Showtime but maybe some basic cable or free TV) will be interested and buy the fight. The problem is that we don't have enough real true promoters left. Top Rank and Main Events are the last of a dying breed.

They could be more creative and stream fights of up and comers on the internet, put smaller cards on in places that don't get much boxing and promote the fight to low income people with cheap tickets, etc.
That will lead to bigger paydays for everyone and grow the sport. Also the networks need to stop promising dates to promoters, as that gives an incentive to the Gary Shaw's of the world to be lazy leeches. Make them put together a card worth buying...Comment

ufc is the same exact thing as top rank just with less competition and more of a chokehold on the sport. (no pun intended.)Comment
