The last part is key as I've used the parallel to the film industry before to illustrate this point. If you're a producer or director and you have a script for a big budget movie and you are trying to get financing/financial support from a major studio, your chances of getting your project green lit are exponentially increased if you're able to get a star attached to the project. Studios wouldn't green light a $100 million budget movie with no name actors in the lead roles (unless it's something with a huge built-in following like Harry Potter), but if you go to a studio head and say 'Will Smith agreed to take the lead role', then that opens the door for you and makes major deals much easier to strike.

Same exact scenario here, CBS would be bank-rolling Top Rank's project but in order to justify their financial commitment, they need a megastar who they know would guarantee a return on their investment. It's not Cotto, it's not Mosley, it's Manny, point blank.

Now if the PPV on SHOW does big numbers, obviously CBS would want to keep Pacquiao in their pocket, which means Uncle Bob can dictate terms more or less as Manny's promoter (agent). This would include moving a show like Top Rank Live from Fox Deportes to CBS primetime. The windfall would benefit Top Rank's lesser stars and introduce them to wider audiences, as well as build new names. Imagine Cotto, Chavez, Mosley, Cintron, Benavidez, JuanMa, Gamboa, Bradley, etc fighting regularly on free TV as well as Fight Camp 360.

How does this not benefit boxing? ESPN has a nice thing going but it's a niche phenomena compared to what CBS can offer.

Bob would be ****** not to use this as a springboard for taking boxing back to the mainstream, it is a reality.

But you think it's about one fight with Mosley and NCAA commercials?

**** outta here with your simple self
A lot of IF'S in your theory, and what makes you think a network that's core demographic of AMERICAN viewers over the age of 35 will be watching boxing events showcasing NON-AMERICAN talent? It's a lot smoke and mirrors based off a suspect motive, and your theory lacks any proof of a solid foundation. Keep this in mind, the last time CBS showcased combat sports live this happen...

Top Rank will use the 2nd round of the Mayweather-Mosley fight to promote this garbage. And when casual fans see the big right Mosley landed on Mayweather they'll say "oh wow, and then what happened?". Once they find out that Mosley was completely outclassed and never won another round they will lose interest in this fight. Nice try tho Arum. At least the *******s will buy the fight.

There really isn't many IFs, beyond the buy rate, everything else is in place more or less. Fight Camp 360 will be broadcast on CBS primetime at least twice, including an hr-long special, so already that is boxing, featuring a non-American, airing on network primetime so... where's the uncertainty about that?

The same audience that watched Pac, Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, Chavez, JuanMa, etc on HBO and Show will watch on CBS, but will be joined by millions more. It would help though if Arum was willing to forego normal PPV and do network cards instead and save the PPV for the major fights.

How does my 'theory' lack anything? Arum is saying that he will use his new partnership to bring Boxing back to the networks and he's already done that with Fight Camp 360 at least partially moving from the niche SHOW to the network CBS in primetime. You don't consider that a 'solid foundation'? Imagine if the finale for the Super 6 has the same deal or Cotto-Margarito II, Lopez-Gamboa, etc. I'd say that's a nice precedent to get the ball rolling.

Again, show me one fighter from Strikeforce that has 1/100,000th of the drawing power of Pacquiao or hell, Cotto for that matter. Strikeforce was a startup with no marketable or bankable fighters. Top Rank/Arum has been in the fight promotions game since the '60s and already has guys who the general public can recognize and have paid to see fight, getting them on network non-pay TV will just increase their visibility and simultaneously help build the stature of future cash cows who are showcased as well (think of someone like Benavidez Jr).
