  • Comments Thread For: Merchant: Mosley is Capable of Beating Manny Pacquiao

HBO's Larry Merchant believes eight-division king Manny Pacquiao "could lose" to three-division, five-time titlist, Shane Mosley, on May 7, in defense of his WBO welterweight belt at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts) is riding a 13-bout winning streak that includes eight stoppages into the Showtime, pay per view televised clash with the 39-year-old Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs), whom Merchant calls, "a dangerous guy."

I don't think this will sink in for most people until about two weeks before the fight.

I have my doubts about this fight also. Mosley likes to trade punches and he has the speed and power to match up with Pacquiao. I don't think this fight will be as easy for Pacquiao as people are thinking.

As we get closer to the fight, we are having more opinions of this nature from forum users (as shown in quotes) and boxing commentators (as you see here with Merchant).

This is not to say that Manny shouldn't be heavily favored. As much as a fan as I am of Shane (as you can see), I totally understand why many think that Manny should be heavily favored. Nonetheless, with my admitted bias, I like the style match-up of my guy against Manny.

I'm looking forward to the fight between two warriors.

I don't know why they are bringing up the Margarito fight with Shane...that was 2 years ago.Since then,he has looked like ****...people can't realize that Shane doesn't have good speed these days either. At best,it will be a good fight for 3 rounds...

Pacman seem to think that he is just some beast never mine he has been ko'd twice. If you guys think for one minute Shane is not going to touch Pacman flush with one of them right hands you are out of your mind. If he caught Floyd he will catch Pacman the other thing is what will happen after he catches him will Pac respond like Floyd or attempt to go to war like he always does at that point we will have a fight on our hands don't be surprised if Pacman has to get off the deck for this one!

Fight ends in stoppage/ko either way this ain't making the full 12th..

Richardson was close to pulling out shane vs Mayweather in the 10th.. Mayweather hardly throws as much as pac either

If Mosley lands those big shots early like he did vs Mayweather.. pac won't make it out imo. Mayweather weathered the storm.. Pac will probably try fight fire with fire rather then holding and get stopped in the process..

Can Shane land these shots? doubtful i'd say pac wins 7 or 8 out of 10 fights between the two. Pac has never fought someone who can punch like Mosley

Most likely its a late stoppage for pac though

I'm a diehard Shane fan too and I was hoping that he could pull the trigger against Floyd, but he didn't. I'm also hoping he will pull something out of his bag for Pac, but I have to be realistic. In Shane's prime Pac would be no match, but event though I'm a diehard fan, I have to admit that he's almost at the end of his rope. But I'm still rooting for him.
