You dispel the notion that only 5 people would recognize these guys. A true fan you are. You are right. The P.I. has had many champs but the greats the P.I. has produced in comparison to many other countries are pretty good ratio, countries not named Mexico or The United States.Comment

Gerry was a champ. . Not as great as the others but should be recognized for living up to his nickname, "fearless". If only he would come around when he was younger. You guys watched Gerry get his shots when he was on his way out the door. Many of them where widely recognized as robberies ie, Morel, De leon.Last edited by Alibata; 02-02-2011, 11:59 PM.Comment

Thats not to take away from the point I was trying to make because the thread poster was trying to compare something that is statistically flawed. You are posting peanuts in comparison to Mexican boxing. In the last 25 years compare the # of Filipinos who fought on HBO or Show to Mexicans. So what if it was the other way around you see? You can also easily sit there and say that the car accident rate of Filipinos in the US is below that of Whites in the US.Comment

LOL!! @ 35 granpa year old sure. All of them robberies except for the Juan Manuel Lopez fight, imagine that. Had some US promoter brought him in the US to fight during his prime he would have kicked ass, coz he kicked ass way past his prime.Comment

Naw robberies? Maybe the morel fight but i didnt watch it. The de leon fight wasnt de leon just out worked him throwing like a hundred punches per round. Maybe not landing all of them but was landing enough. Well every time i saw him even when he beat gonzalez he was tottally out classed until the body shot. Im not gona count the lopez fight bc he was clearly to small and past it. But i dont see how somebody could claim he is great.Gerry was a champ. . That has always been a matter of demographics. Penalosa for example has been fighting for years and showed world class talent in being competitive with most he traded leather with yet we in the U.S. have only heard or witnessed him in the twilight of his career, thanks to Manny P opening doors. I see what your saying though, I am just pointing out the reason why Pinoys have not been on HBO is because there hasn't been a proven audience to sell Pinoys like Mexicans or Puerto Ricans with a huge fan base in or close to the U.S... I think Pinoys have enough of a population now to garner the interest of promotors and maybe networks that may start seeing them as lucrative (see pinoys all the time now fighting on spanish networks/Pinoy power ppv).Thats not to take away from the point I was trying to make because the thread poster was trying to compare something that is statistically wrong. The names you posted are a handful compared to Mexican boxers. In the last 10 years compare the # of Filipinos who fought on HBO or Show to Mexicans. So what if it was the other way around you see? You can also easily sit there and say that the car accident rate of Filipinos in the US is below that of Whites in the US.
Boxing is a business. I see what you are saying though.Comment
