Most those fights were for championships and shown in the U.S. to packed houses. Many of those fighters are in the IHOF so they and at least four are in the 100 ATG list, including Pac. You've heard of the bolo punch yet never knew who invented it? Yeah your a real fan. I went to a fight live and saw Luisito Espinosa and a good portion autograph seekers were Mexican. True fans.

I'll give you 2 right now on the # for # list.

Many of the Pinoy Champs in the video are still alive.
          Navarette
          Espinosa
          Etc
          Etc.

Joe Echevarria was not only a quitter, but the worst example of "Filipino Pride" in boxing.

He never quit in a fight.. He was koed by sugar ray robinson in the second round.

You should look up Bernard Docusen, a pinoy who gave SRR a life and death fight.

"The fastest and most exciting battle seen in a Chicago ring since the Rocky Graziano-Tony Zale battle in the Stadium a year before... Docusen proved a foeman worthy of Robinson’s keenest steel... The flashy Filipino was not daunted in the least by Robinson’s reputation... For ten rounds Docusen fought Robinson on fairly even terms, and there was little to choose... Robinson pulled his waning forces together at the start of the eleventh."

"Docusen was dazed by the attack and then Robinson caught him with a left hook that put him down for a nine count. Robinson "had fought himself out in the previous flurry and lacked the power to finish his reeling opponent. For the remainder of the fight Robinson had the upper hand."

Pinoys have been around.. From battles with Saddler, Henry Armstrong, etc, to the greatest of all time. Pinoys have been fighting for a long time against the best and have won. There have been many pinoy champs just not that much recognition because the fan base at the time was not conducive to their success like Manny Pacquiao who has come at a time where it can be lucrative to be Pinoy and famous in America.

I remember watching a video of him on youtube with him being celebrated in quezon city and thinking that they're giving this kid too much, too early.

Hell I bet most true fans know who Espinosa is who defended his title for a long time or Navarette who had big wins against significant fighters.

Well if you consider gerry penalosa a great fighter than some of those fighters must not be very good.
