Too bad Dawson wants to take a lesser challenge by fighting Andrade or Diacanu when we know Erdei is better than those guys, draws a good crowd, and has a belt on top of it. If I was HBO, I'd turn down those opponents and make Dawson take this fight. They do it practically with every other fighter, so why not Dawson?

Erdei doesn't have a belt. He vacated his Cruiserweight title immediately after winning it, in order to move back to Light Heavyweight. He probably is better than Andrade or Diaconu (although it's so long since he's fought a decent Light Heavyweight that it's impossible to be sure any more, and he looked very rusty in his last fight, which was against a bum); but he doesn't draw a good crowd outside of Hungary and Germany; his style isn't entertaining; and the fact that he fought nobodies for years on end while he held the WBO belt must count against him with HBO. Plus he's been extremely inactive lately, only one fight in 2010, against a bum; 2 fights in 2009 and only 1 fight in 2008 - four fights in three years! And only one of those was against a half-decent opponent.

That said, from a sporting point of view, I'd like to see him fight a top contender to see where he's at.

I thought the last time Erdei fought on the east coast he drew a good crowd of Euro fans from Hungary.

It was on the Martinez-Williams undercard (and the Erdei fight wasn't even televised!), and most of the crowd was there to see the main event. There was a very small band of screaming Hungarians in the crowd, but certainly not large numbers. And it was against a complete bum.

But I hope DiBella can get him a fight against a decent opponent soon, and then we'll see. But based on that fight, which was his last fight, I see no reason why HBO should be pushing for Dawson to fight him at this stage. It's many years since Erdei has fought a decent Light Heavyweight.
