  • Sergio Martinez Not Happy With Emeritus Status

The truth is it's not enough for me, it's not enough. What I really wanted was to keep defending the title that Carlos Monzón had. So much is spoken about Monzón, well, I wanted to defend that title until I retire from boxing; try to defend it always. But I have to make due with the Emeritus belt and see what happens in the future. Let´s hope it´s a good thing.

I think everything is being done so that Chávez becomes the champion. I've been saying it for quite a while. I understand that the WBC is trying to do its best for Chávez Jr, for who he is, for being the son of who he is, and for being Mexican, but I'm going to try to accept things how they are and hope Chávez wins the world title so I will be able to challenge him.

He should just refuse to pay the sanctioning fee and let them stick the emeritus belt up their ass.

Zbik beats Chavez in Mexico. or Zbik gets robbed, but all the world will see how bad he was schooled.

It's ironic that Sergio Martinez, who is very big in helping abused woman, idolizes Carlos Monzon.

Sounds like Martinez needs to be educated in the sport, Monzon did indeed hold the Ring Magazine lineal title from 70 to 77,when he retired. Fack those hoe's!

Martinez shows his ignorance by emotionally investing himself in an alphabet belt.

i would be pissed to. Dude gets stripped of his belt so that some chump can get it and he gets "emeritus" champion whatever the fvuck that means while still having to pay sanction fees. for the "he is ignorant" comment dude earned his belt fair and square. his promoter didnt get him to fight for it when he didnt deserve it nor did he get it at a bull**** catchweight. he earned it like all boxers should so you damn right he has a right to be pissed.

Why would he continue paying the sanctioning fee? WHY? PLEASE ANSWER ME!

It's an alphabet title. He still has the Ring belt. He's the lineal champ! Hopkins -> Taylor -> Pavlik -> Martinez. Why does he need a green belt to legitimize his accomplishment. He's already accomplished it!
