when you guys talk about crossover appeal and superstardom i can't really relate to what that is. mainstream/pop-culture isnt an aspect of my life. do men really care about how good a boxer looks or if he has a great smile or if he's dancing with the stars? is crossover/superstar appeal when women are fans of a certain fighter? charisma=running your mouth on twitter and having nice teeth? i guess i just dont get it.
Who Is Most Marketable/Crossover Star @ 140lbs?

Basically yes, Oscar De La Hoya is the best example of cross over appeal and superstardom, He had the boxing skills, the looks, the massive fanbase, the olympic pedigree, Just everything, He made Mayweather, Pacquaio famous, He was the man to beat to become famous.when you guys talk about crossover appeal and superstardom i can't really relate to what that is. mainstream/pop-culture isnt an aspect of my life. do men really care about how good a boxer looks or if he has a great smile or if he's dancing with the stars? is crossover/superstar appeal when women are fans of a certain fighter? charisma=running your mouth on twitter and having nice teeth? i guess i just dont get it.
So with regard to the 140lb division, out of those listed who do you think has it?Comment

none of the above.
khan because he has the u.k. support but he wont be big in the u.s. unless he fights and beats pac or floyd.
the rest of the guys suffer because they are from the u.s., unless they fight and beat pac or floyd, none of these guys will be crossover stars. stars make stars, oscar made pac and floyd stars and now pac and floyd need to make the future boxing starsLast edited by el malo; 02-01-2011, 06:23 AM.Comment

Pleeeease...old ladies know who amir khan is in the UK, im sitting with 2 ladies in my office at work both in their 40's, they don't know who floyd mayweather is but know who amir is...he is extremely popular in the UK, youngest olympic medalist since floyd patterson. He will need to produce the goods to be as popular in the US though, he needs to keep winning...which will most likely get him the mayweather fight, and then it is up to him...win or lose though he would make his mark just by entering the rareified atmosphere of a ring with fmj.Comment

i dont really think any of them do, for now anyway. khan would maybe be the closest because of his fighting style but i can't see the US or a lot of countries for that matter really supporting him big (not that i really give a shit about his ethnic/religious background but i know a lot of people would). like prince was big but i think most people just wanted to see him get knocked out, like floyd. i dont really get that same ****y vibe from khan so i dont know if he'll be one of those fighters that people love to hate.Basically yes, Oscar De La Hoya is the best example of cross over appeal and superstardom, He had the boxing skills, the looks, the massive fanbase, the olympic pedigree, Just everything, He made Mayweather, Pacquaio famous, He was the man to beat to become famous.

outside of the ring i dont really find anything interesting about khan. i suppose you guys are right when you say that you have to beat a star to become a star. but if khan was an american olympic medalist instead of british, i think he would be fairly popularComment

It was Ortiz. He has the talent, the looks and the personality. But not the mentality of a fighter. So its Khan nowComment
