I think Cotto wins 9th round TKO. Cotto at 140 was more vulnerable than Cotto at Welterweight. Ricardo Torres nearly took Cotto out but Cotto showed he could take a punch from a muderous puncher and take you out in the process. If Maidana fell over like that from a Khan bodyshot he would have been in Labor from a Cook left hook to the body.

You forget Maidana too cant take what he dishes out, but unlike Cotto who knows how to box when hurt, Maidana doesnt know how to fight backwards, and gets dropped almost evrytime he gets hurt.

Cotto's opponent that best compares to a Maidana is Torres who is the only guy that dropped Cotto at 140. Like Maidana, Torres also didnt know how to fight backwards, but Torres has faster hands than Maidana.

In terms of style Maidana and Margarito could be comparable, but Margarito has more reach, is naturally bigger, and has been proven to have a chin no ordinary fighter could break. Maidana would be the bigger puncher of the two.

If I could bet, my money would be on Cotto stopping Maidana late as he used way more bodyshots at lightwelterweight than he did at welter.

I would take Cotto by stoppage. I think he has the ability to hurt, outbox, and breakdown Maidana. I don't think Maidana can quite apply the pressure Margarito or Pacquiao can.
