Because Robinson is overrated.Nothing special about beating up slow flat footed Italian guys and then ducking every black man who you know would destroy you.Robinson clearl ducked Burley in favor of fighting light punching unskilled guys like Lamotta.
Robinson isn't the only guy to do this.Black fighters at that point in time ducked black fighters more than white fighters ducked black fighters. When Robinson did fight black guys they gave him a hell of a time or beat him.Guys like Tommy Bell wasn't anything special but he dropped Robinson and believe and barely lost.Turpin did beat Robison and was winning their second fight as well before Robinson got lucky and stopped him.
If Bell could give Robinson hell then Hearns would of killed him.So would Hagler,Benn,Mugabi, ect ect ect.Robisons chin was pretty weak.If you are going to say Trindad had a bad chin then Robison was alot worse.Once Robinson started fighting slightly better opponents he got knocked down alot.Sure he got up but the point is he went down.If Lamotta could knock Robinson down and have him in big trouble then a bigger puncher would of finsihed him.
You people need to stop listening to these bullshyt stories about older fighters.Older people act like these guys couldn't lose. They act like just because you fought back then it made you better than the fighters are today. When in reality most old school fighters weren't nearly as skilled as fighters later on.They had more heart and courage but that is it.
As i said before to be great you need to beat great fighters. To be good you need to beat good fighters.Padding up a impressive record against guys like Lamotta who had over 30 loses in his career and had only 30 knock outs in 90 wins doesn't make you great. If Robinson would of beat Burley or beat a guy like Archie Moore at middleweight,or Charles at middleweight you could say the man was great. But Robinson didn't have the balls to fight guys like this so the man is overrated,

      1) he is old, many times people focus on the fighters of now, and not as much as the guys from the 50's and such...also, few people have seen fights of his, i can speak for this, ive only seen about ten of his fights, mostly his biggest ones...
      2) becuase many people cant watch him fight, they look at his record. granted, 173 wins is amazing, but he also has 19 losses, and many of those wins came at the beginning of his career, when he was fighting fighters of lesser skill.

those are a few reasons in which certian people, who are uninformed, consider him overrated.

imo, he isnt overrateed, its all a matter of opinion, i believe hes one of the top five fighters of all time, but i think a prime hagler defeats a prime srr....so whatever floats your boat

      Uh......

He won over 100 fights before having his first loss, he lost like 5-6 times in his last year...

I have never seen anyone downgrade Robinson...I see people talk all kinds of **** on Sugar Ray Leonard but NEVER Robinson.

Sturm-Your assumption that Hagler would beat Robinson is one of the dumbest things I have ever read.

Most of his 19 loses came after he came back from retirement. Robinson won 96 straight fight & retired with 137 wins, only 2 loses when he retired the first time, he lost his last fight. Actually he add lost one time in 137 fights. After he came back, he was old & wasn't the same fighter. He revolutionized boxing & he is by far the greatest boxer of all time. No one was better then Robinson.

Lol number 1 i went to UVA after i was in the marines Thagreatest.Second stop being a ******.3rd learn about boxing **** sucker.Like i said ducking black fighters so you can fight slow mob controlled italian guys doesn't make you great
Ali was great because he fought other greats.Ali didnt duck black men to fight white guys he knew he could beat.Foreman fought great fighters,Frazier did,Norton did,Holyfiled never backed down from anybody.Lewis never ducked anybody people usually ducked him.To be great you need to beat greats child. To be great you need to challenge and beat other top fighters.
Robinson never did this.He hand picked his opponents more than probably any fighter any other fighter in boxing history besides Marciano.Robinson used to go to europe and fight guys who were 3 and 15 when Robinson had over 50 fights. If Robinson seen that you were black and good he just ducked you completely. If being a coward makes you great then there are alot of great fighters then.
Lets use Ali again...just imagine if he didn't fight Foreman,Frazier,Norton,Shavers,Lyle,Holmes, and the rest of the top black fighters he fought and just fought white guys who he knew he could beat.If he did this how many of you would think he is still great?None of you i bet.So why is it different for Robinson?Robinson isn't great period. He is just a guy who fought in a era where you could duck black guys and have 99 percent of your opponents be white. It worked for him then but it wouldn't cut it today.

hahahah, i KNOW, but i was trying to play devil's advocate, and say why some people think he is overrated, people who dont know enough about him and just look at the fact that he has 19 losses

lamotta grew more powerful as his career grew, he also floored robinson twice and fougt many many close fights with him. he is tough as nails and great competition for the finesse of srr. those were some classic fights.
