If you see a japanese guy on the streets, would you say "hey, look at that asian dude." Yes you would.

What happens if he is a guy from india? would you still say the same thing?

You don't necessarily call them "asian" even though they are part of asia. From my experience, I never heard such things.

That's the silliest post I've seen in years. Indians are every bit as Asian as Japanese people are. Japanese are East Asians, Indians are South Asians. You'll be claiming that Germans aren't Europeans next, or that Californians aren't Americans.

And you can't even tell whether someone is ethnically Indian just by looking at them - and nor can you tell that someone is ethnically Japanese just by looking at them. You can tell that the the former is ethnically South Asian and that the latter is ethnically East Asian, just by looking at them, but not the country they are from.

In the US the majority of Asians are East Asians, especially Japanese and for that reason, and because the US had a war with Japan, many Americans seem to think only of Japanese and to some extent Chinese and Vietnamese when they refer to Asians - but those people are no more Asians than any other Asians are, that's just a curiosity of American stereotypes. In Europe, the vast majority of Asians are South Asians, and when Europeans refer to Asians they think primarily of South Asians. This is especially true in Britain, where India was the primary colony for most of the period of empire. Europeans also consider Japanese to be Asians but if you mentioned that you met an Asian to any European, they would automatically assume you meant a South Asian, unless you said otherwise.

British people of South Asian ethnic origin are almost always referred to as British Asians, and almost never as British Indians or British Pakistanis or British ****ladeshis etc.
