Comments Thread For: Kessler-Stieglitz Already in Trouble as SES Denies Offer

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Sauerland Event, who promote Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32KOs), sent a lucrative offer of over three million Danish kroner to WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (39-2, 23KOs) to face Kessler in a June title clash in Denmark.

A "lucrative offer of 3,000,000 Danish Kroner" to Stieglitz.

    That's:
    - £347,000
    - €402,000
    - $552,000

That's not really particularly lucrative for a world-title bout at Middlewight.

If they do make such an offer then I'm sure Stieglitz would turn it down. It's a very high-risk fight for Stieglitz against a world-class opponent. I'm sure he'd want at least twice that amount (>$1m) to fight Kessler.

Looks like SES is looking for a way to get out of this without losing too much face.

For the record the offer that was made was between 3 and 3.7 million. I think it's roughly the same Interbox offered for a Bute fight although I'm not entirely sure.

If Stieglitz doesn't fight a Kessler at 168 now, then when will he? It's not like he's green. He's got a paper title... he should be ready to face the big boys.

Steiglitz is a typical overptoected german bum. Germany is a disgrace. Out of all the well known boxing countries, Germany is BY FAR the worst.

If the amounts listed above are correct then I think they should offer Stieglitz more than that.

I agree. I would think 5M DKK (roughly £500K) is more realistic. Of course it also depends upon how much money the german TV rights are worth. They are worth a lot more for a primetime Kessler fight in Denmark than a Bute fight in Canada in the middle of the night.

I think he should get paid a bit more. Kessler is a very big name, this would be a very big fight in mainland Europe. Have it in Denmark but possibly on PPV in Germany too? I dunno if that's feasible.

But either way, Kessler would be making at least $1m, probably a couple million, so it's only fair that Stieglitz gets paid fairly, paper champ or not.
