Chris John is #1 at Featherweight.

His title defences are into double figures, he is undefeated in 46 fights.

He holds a clear victory over a prime Juan Manuel Marquez. That alone pisses all over Juan Manuel Lopez and Yuriorkis Gamboa.

I have seen the fight. I am a big Chris John fan. There is a trend for people to say, "that was a robbery", "this was a robbery". I know this. Alot of times it is a robbery. This fight in particular was not a robbery. Some dude will look at it, JMM suffering an unsuspected loss and assume it was a robbery. As soon as someone starts saying something along those lines in a place like this no doubt 75% of the people will believe it.

Marquez was never going to get it easy in the fight. He was fighting in the champion's country, in that situation you have to take the title. Of course anything close is going to go to the home fighter. It was nothing like an outrageous robbery, the likes of Alexander-Kotelnik, or Lacy-Tsypko.

If you sit down and score the fight yourself, the best you can probably come up with is "7 or 8 rounds were close, and I gave the majority to Marquez", knowing full well Marquez would never be given the close rounds in Indonesia. I could list a thousand examples of champions getting the preferential treatment in the past year as far as the scorecards go, but I won't.

I hope Lopez or Gamboa beat John. Besides Marquez, he's foughten Cannon Fodder after Cannon Fodder. He's no Ricardo Lopez or Marciano who fought all comers and strong champions but still beat them.

he has to take his own title? john was the challenger who had the "regular" belt while marquez was the "super" champion which means he is the real wba champ. did john take marquez's title? certainly not.

WBA Super World Featherweight title history - Marquez's belt
WBA World Featherweight title history - John's belt

As I said, Marquez had to take John's title.

marquez was the real wba champ. do your research on how the super champ in the wba works.

I know how the super champion works. Regardless. This fight was for John's title. You can whittle that down to saying "in the eyes of all the boxing guru's, theoretically Marquez was the real champion because he didn't lose the belt in the ring, John was a paper champion", etc etc. Say whatever. The fact remains. Marquez was the challenger for Chris John's WBA World belt in Indonesia.
